I am currently Head of Literacy at a Secondary school. I teach English, as well as Literacy lessons to children with SEN. I carry out Literacy/Phonics interventions. Before that, I was a primary school teacher for 6 years (a year in year 3, a year in year 5 and the rest of my time was in year 6!). All resources have been taught and planned by me. I am leader of literacy at my school so all planning is high quality.

Lesson plans to be taught alongside the reading of ‘Cirque Du Freak’ by Darren Shan. These plans were originally created for a lower ability/SEN year 7/8 class. Intervention designed for the teaching and improving of vocabulary. Designed by a Head of Literacy at a secondary school. Previously worked really well in improving vocabulary. Focus on a range of Tier 2 words. The intervention is designed to be repetitive and thorough in the teaching of the new words. It can be used to support Key stage 2, 3 or 4 students. Structure: -Introduce new word Learn definition Create flash card for the new word Go through flashcards of all known words with new word added in Fill out Frayer model to support vocabulary consolidation Synonym challenge game Provided will be a Powerpoint with all new words (over 40), their definitions, synonyms. The first 2 lessons have notes attached to really easy to follow and plan from. The other lessons provide a blank canvas so students can fill in the Frayer model and make the flashcard as part of the learning process. Powerpoint and Excel spreadsheet of all the words are included.
