This resource is designed to inspire a love of books in Key Stage 1 pupils while developing their understanding of literary classifications. Young learners distinguish between fiction and non-fiction and then delve deeper into genres and topics. Included is a planning sheet that outlines three lesson plans, complete with objectives, a list of necessary materials, activities, and follow-up suggestions to reinforce learning. There are two ready-made labels for fiction and non-fiction to facilitate a hands-on card sorting activity. Accompanying these are 10 pages, each featuring six diverse book covers in black and white, which can be cut out for an interactive classification game and a range of activities. Examples of book covers are ‘Learn to Play the Piano’, ‘I have a New Daddy’ and ‘My Book of Fairy Tales for 7 year olds’. Tailored for Key Stage 1 children, the book covers lend themselves to lots of speaking and listening and predicting. Follow up with sorting of real books and / or children can design their own book covers using the cards for inspiration. 3 activity sheets based on the theme of World of Work for KS1. Sheet 1 shows 20 characters with props that suggest their occupations. Children can make a list of what jobs they think the people do and then write the corresponding numbers next to the characters. Sheet 3 gives suggestions that may support the children in their choices and with their written work. Sheet 2 shows 4 characters and asks the children to add props to each person to indicate what jobs they might do. They can then write the titles underneath the pictures. Sheet 3 can also be used for children to draw pictures of occupations or props and /or to write the words.

Have fun with your children this Easter with this Easter Egg Trail game. The idea is to place your colour egg posters around the outside area / playground or school for children to locate. They then mark off what they have found on the Easter Egg Trail recording sheets. There is a colour and a black and white version of the recording sheets. There are 16 colour posters included showing the different designs of Easter eggs. There are also 16 sheets where there is a colour and black and white picture of each of the eggs.
