I am a Head of Department (RE) in a large school. I teach KS3, KS4 and KS5. I have had additional responsibilities in improving progress and attainment in RE. I teach Health & Social Care and Life Skills. I have also taught BTEC Applied Law, Psychology and PSHE. Prior to teaching my background was in forensic psychology, mental health, learning disabilities and research/quality assurance.

A KS3 Buddhism lesson teaching students about the eightfold path. The lesson aims to teach students about the eightfold path, its importance and how Buddhist follow the path to enlightenment. The lesson links nicely to previous learning about the four noble truths. Activities include match up, literacy and involve students applying their learning to life scenarios. There are lots of opportunities for questioning/feedback at various points.

A KS3 Buddhism lesson teaching students about the four noble truths. The lesson aims to teach students about the four noble truths and their importance. This lesson has a variety of activites and is fast paced. It suits all abilities, for lower abilities/poor behaviour students I have taught this over two lesson. The lesson offers lots of opportunities for students to be involved. A good mixture of AO1 and AO2 learning.

GCSE lessons on Bandura. These lessons introduce the study - its aims, hypothesis, methods and results. There is also an evaluation task that requires students to draw on previous learning. A variety of activities (e.g. word fill, discussion, sorting) and lots of opportunities for progress checking (e.g. true/false, post its). This lesson can be taught as two but condensed down in to one lesson if needed. These can follow on from lessons about Social Learning Theory (see my resources).

An emotive and engaging PSHE lesson focusing on the affects the media can have on body image. This lesson has been observed as outstanding. The lesson aims to teach students how the media represents men and women, how Photoshop can be used to alter images and the impact of this. The lesson engages students in all aspects and encourages them to consider their opinions. I have taught this lesson with high ability, lower ability and mixed ability - it works perfectly with all students because it explore opinions and feelings in a sensitive and mature manner. Includes some videos and activities from the Dove Campaign and BBC Learning Zone (all links are included in the powerpoint).

A KS3 lesson teaching students about the life of the Buddha. It is perfect the start a unit of work on Buddhism or as part of a religious founders unit of work. The lesson includes a variety of activities and focuses on checking learning at various points in the lesson through in depth questioning. The first activity uses the Animated World Faiths clip (any alternative clip can be used). The final activity offers students a choice of two tasks, that can be selected based on their ability/behaviour/learning style/etc. The lesson is engaging and fun for students.

BTEC HSC Tech award to be delivered to Y9s. Component 1 - Learning Aim A Human lifespan development. The lesson is the second lesson focusing on the life stages and PIES. The lesson teaches students what the life stages are in detail focusing on the developmental processes. Also students are taught about PIES and what happens in each section in terms of development, using examples. The lesson aims to explore life stages and PIES in more depth. Activities are varied and have challenging elements. Perfect to teach as is, or can be adapted to suit. The final task involves students looking at photos of each area of PIES. I will be using some photos of my son to aid their understanding and enable application to a personal example. However, I haven’t included these photos of the PPT. I have included some generic photos as examples. There is an opportunity for you to use your own photos of search online for generic photos.

Explores why students want to study the topic with a team work activity. Lesson 2 is approaches in psychology. This lesson introduces the approaches in psychology. Team work and effective working is promoted in this lesson. These two lessons are perfect to introduce any GCSE Psychology topic. Could also be adapted for a brief A Level introduction lesson or a lesson to promote the subject.

A lesson focusing on key Hindu beliefs and teachings about the afterlife. Students are taught key information to meet the outcome ‘I can describe Hindu beliefs about the afterlife, so I am able to discuss evidence and make comparisons.’ Studnets encouraged to consider the following questions: What do Hindus believe about life after death? What is meant by the key terms atman, reincarnation and samsara? What is karma? How does it impact on a persons life? Why do Hindus have these beliefs? The lessons main activity is a fun game design to explain key Hindu beliefs about the afterlife. Has been planned for KS3, but would be perfect for KS2 or lower ability KS4.

A PSHE series of lessons where students are design/creating/selling a product. These lesson has been used as a stand alone lesson to develop students presentation skills and confidence. Students are introduced to the Dragons Den team and some example pitches (good and bad). They are to then to create their own product to pitch. This will lead to them presenting the pitch. This can be adapted to suit the class and number of lessons can be changed. I taught this over 2 lessons with a mid ability group.

A MINI BUNDLE of A level resources used to teach the A Level Shi'a Islam unit. These lessons work well alongside the Victor Watton Islam book (or another text can be used). This unit is taught over 11 lessons, however can be adapted to suit your needs. The unit starts with an introduction to Muhammad and the origins of Shi'a Islam. There is a lot of focus through the unit on the differences in terms of key beliefs and roles of the Iman. There are opportunities for exam questions and reviewing example questions in line with the spec (Edexcel). This unit is perfect to support your teaching of Shi'a Islam and keep pupils engaged with a variety of activities.
