AQA (9-1) GCSE History - Health and the People - Lesson 5 (Medieval Surgery)
An hour long lesson looking at the impact of Christianity on Medieval England, following the Scheme of Work as set out by AQA textbook. An easy-to-follow lesson which I have tested and used on 4 classes (in Years 9-10 at my school) of mixed ability.
Resources on the powerpoint that can be printed and laminated. Images also used so that students can have a visual image to remind them of key individuals.
A 'Course Companion' that will be given to students at the start of the unit 'Health and the People'. It cover the course specification as a check list that students can tick to check their subject knowledge.
As well as covering the specification, it goes through exam questions, telling students how long they should spend on each question, and for 2x questions given them sentence starters. After this, 3 answers are given to students so that they can see the difference between the different marks.
There is space for students to write in examples of sample questions.
All information in the booklet is taken from the AQA Website and from webinar materials.
Five lessons (most of which are double lessons) covering Part 2 of the New AQA GCSE History Making of America course:
- Fort Laramie Treaty
- The Indians Wars
- Causes of American Civil War
- Home front in Civil War
- Mountain Meadow Massacre
Most resources have been adapted from the resources suggested by AQA. The other sheets I have made based on what the specification expects students to know.
These lessons don't cover exam technique.
An A3 sheet providing students with an overview of the Making of America course for the new AQA GCSE History Course. It includes Key Dates and Key Terms and the types of exam questions that they will have to use.
A series of exam questions for students to practice exam skills taken from AQA and from the AQA Textbook. I have colour coded these into Part 1, 2, 3 and 4 so that teachers can easily pick questions dependent on how far into teaching the course you are.
A series of lessons covering Parts One and Two for the American West Course. Also including information on Exam Questions (taken from advice given by AQA), a subject knowledge audit and a knowledge organiser.
I have not included exemplar answers as I am still awaiting clarification from the exam board regarding a couple of issues.
This is an assessment book for students studying AQA History: Germany 1890-1945. For each of the 6 Question types there are exemplar answers with commentary (from AQA), tips on how to structure the response, and 2x practice questions for each question type, with the mark scheme below each question (making marking easy as the teacher can highlight/underline the appropriate comments) and then space for additional teacher comments.
I have found these booklets so helpful as all of their practice questions are in one place, so it’s easy for students to see my comments on their first attempt of this question to then take this feedback on board when writing this again.
All of the appropriate sources are in the booklet, so this is ready to be printed and used.
Bookmarks listing the key dates/events for 2 topics on GCSE History AQA Paper 1 (Conflict and Tension 1918 - 1939 and Germany 1890 - 1945). I get these laminated and students use these throughout the course both in class and at home.
These can easily be adapted for any topics, and can be used in a variety of ways, and parents have commented on how they like to use them with students so that they can support them in their revision/studies.
AQA GCSE History Assessment - Nazi Germany
An assessment booklet that can be printed into a folded booklet. You must have a copy of the red AQA GCSE textbook as it refers to questions in that textbook.
There is space for students to write answers, for teacher feedback, and also instructions on how to structure each answer. For each question, there is also a sample answer from AQA for students to see, and there is a knowledge checklist at the front for the whole course.
This has worked really well, especially for a class who need more ‘structure’. For marking, it’s much easier for me to take in than the exercise books too. I have now made them for each of the units that I teach.
FYI: There are 2 documents - this is for page numbers purposes (I didn’t want page 1 to be the front cover!)
AQA GCSE History Assessment - Conflict and Tension 1918-1939

There is also another document title 'assessment questions weaker) included in this resource which includes sentence starters for students who need a little more support
An A4 subject knowledge audit which students stick in their books at the start of the Making of America Course. It can easily be adapted to suit your needs, but it covers the course specification.
In light of the new specification, I've created an easy to read document outlining the exam questions in each paper with examples taken from resources provided by AQA. This allows teachers to easily spot patterns in the types of questions asked.
A teacher-friendly resource showing the different types of questions asked on Paper 1, advice from the exam board on how to answer these and an exemplar answer given as part of the resources from the Webinar.
Teachers will need access to the Oxford AQA GCSE History Textbook for part of this lesson. A powerpoint and worksheet covering the information as set up by AQA in the specification
An 18-page booklet outlining the OCR Spec for the American West/Medicine presented in a tick box style for students to use to help to guide their revision, and a 'how to' guide for how to answer the questions based on the 2015 paper.
This booklet is well-presented and easy for pupils to use, and can be easily adapted for any topic/unit.
A mock exam for AQA GCSE History Health and the People. Made from questions given by AQA and in the textbook.
There is a double sided sheet for students, and the layout is in the same layout as the exam paper. After the exam, there is space for students to reflect on their performance before it is marked. I've also included a mark scheme.
I have given this to my students after Lesson 20. I will then give them feedback which should help them for a final End of Unit Mock Exam at the end of the course.
