Learners are introduced to mission statements and how they differ from vision statements, we then focus on corporate objectives, internal and external influences on them before looking at functional objectives. We wrap this up with a nice visual of how the mission flows down to the functional objectives. Difference between strategy and tactics is looked at. The second powerpoint introduces learners to the value of a SWOT analysis. We start by looking at what a SWOT analysis is and the types of questions we need to ask ourselves to find out our SWOT. We then contextualise with a few activities and examples such as Mcdonald’s, Thornton’s and a brief sorting activity with Apples SWOT. We then go on to look at a concise case study on BHP the large mining company, students can work in pairs or a group to assess the companies position using SWOT, the outcomes of this can be used to answer a 9 mark question based on the case study. A concise model answer is included for students to peer assess. We finish with a kahoot quiz! Many real life examples are given throughout the bundle to help students contextualise. This double lesson introduces learners to the world of taxes. We start by discussing what a tax is, types of taxes in the UK and the categories of taxes such as progressive, proportional and regressive taxation. An engaging story video on progressive taxes to highlight what it is and an evaluation. We look at VAT with some charts and graphs to contextualise it before looking at current income tax rates. We discuss the economic effects of changes in direct and indrect tax rates on other variables with examples and thought provoking questions. A 4 mark question with a model answer and video case studies with exam style questions to further prepare students for exams. We start by recapping what the BoP is, some context given on surplus and deficits before we look at the causes and consequences of current account deficits. A group task for students to come up with policies to reduce a current account deficiit before we go through a range of strategies to address deficits in the BoP. This double lesson introduces learners to strategies which influence the growth and development of a country. There are quite a few factors on the specification (under market orientated and interventionist) so this could be delivered as a student-led task to research either category, I split the class in half to allocate. We then feedback what students have found out but also go through each factor on the board to extend and fill any gaps in knowledge, or clear any misconceptions gained when learning independently. We also look at industrialisation and other strategies such as development of primary industries, tourism, aid and debt relief. A very interestesting topic due to the application of the financial crisis. We start by recapping what market failure is and how banks fail. We then look at the 2008 financial crisis to understand what happened. Examples of different market failures are given, video case studies to help students contextualise. A 15 mark question on whether banks should be bailed out, indicative points and a peer assessment grid is included for students to use.
