This lesson introduces learners to the extent of which MNCs actions can be controlled. We start with the some examples of significant actions by MNCs which would require intervention. We then look at reasons for how they can and cannot be controlled. A concise case study and video on the BP oil spill, students attempt a 12 mark question, structure guidance is given and a concise model answer to help students with developing contextual skills. This double lesson introduces learners to decision trees, we break down the tree right from the very beginning, and look at how to construct one step by step, to ultimately work out the expected values of outcomes and the final net gains. Students have the opportunity to practice calculations for themselves, and then self assess with the answers on the board. We then go on to look at the advantages and disadvantages of using decision trees, followed by a 10 mark question on the usefulness of decision trees. For each production method we look at real life examples such as a wedding dress for job production. We then go on to look at cell production, productivity and efficiency, each with their formulas. This double lesson introduces learners to marketing in a global context, building on the knowledge from theme 1. We start by looking at three main types of marketing strategies then go on to look at’Glocalisation’, and the best example of this which is Mcdonald’s. A short engaging video on how Mcdonald’s has tailored their foods to countries around the world, followed by a concise case study on the same topic for consolidation. A few activities followed by another concise case study on Mattel and how they launched Barbie in China, but ultimately failed, due to an incorrect marketing strategy. Students attempt a 10 mark exam style question on this, with structure guidance and a model answer provided which can be used for peer asssessment.
