BRAVO Reward points chart RM

(2)
This is a BRAVO reward points chart. Students stick the second A4 slide in their books. BRAVO stands for Book presentation, Reaching out for extension work, Avoiding behaviour points, Verbal contribution and responsibility, Outstanding work. This can be incorporated as part of an established school reward and behaviour system. The class teacher may reward students every 20 points using a phone call home, postcard or any other strategy. Acid rain newspaper template and websites

There is a newspaper template with boxes that students fill in using information from the website links. The NSB website is a website that provides symbol equations (very challenging). The Doncaster website is a lot easier to read and understand. I will later add a lesson PowerPoint and keywords glossary.

Exothermic endothermic enthalpy reactions KS4 KS5

(3)
This is a lesson that works with a very able top set double science GCSE, triple science GCSE or AS chemistry. The levels are based on AS so these may need to be increased if this lesson is to be used at GCSE. The SAS video is played from 2 minutes 30 to around 5 minutes for the starter activity. The Top Gun theme tune could be used as an activity timer. Exam questions are from Edexcel AS chemistry unit 1 but work equally well for GCSE. The Mr T photo indicates 'challenge&' questions that require resilience (independent learning). Please rate and leave feedback.

Edexcel A level Chemistry Grade Boundaries 2013

This is a PowerPoint that I share with AS students so that they are aware of the grade boundaries. I use percentage equivalents to grade work that is handed in. It is worthwhile bringing to students attention that AS boundaries are lower than A2 despite the increasing challenge in A2.

Polarity peer editing exam Q task AS chemistry

(0)
This is a peer editing exam question task on polarity for AS Chemistry. Students use the glossary keywords to answer an exam question. To help develop exam writing skills there are 3 graded questions based on the exam question. Students answer each of these questions then pass the sheet on to their partner to peer edit their work - such as by adding more detail from the glossary. The actual mark scheme is provided for students to assess themselves against. Please rate this resource and leave feedback.

AFL strategies 6 - Tarsia fun science activities

(2)
This is the 6th of my AFL strategies. Tarsia are an excellent and fun way of carrying out AFL. This is because the shape expected is generated if the correct answers are matched up. These are science tarsia and more of these will be added. Please leave feedback and rate the resources if you find them useful or have suggestions as to how they can be improved.

Organ transplant trump cards

(1)
The slides are printed as 6 slide handouts and then cut. Lower ability can compare patients 1 and 2. Higher ability can compare all patients. Patients 3 to 5 pose challenging ethical questions. Use Blooms questioning to further differentiate (compare L4, Justify L7).
Cells tissues and organs lesson plan

Cells tissues and organs lesson plan

(1)
This is a lesson that was taught to year 7 where we looked at the tissues that make up an organ. A carousel-style practical was set up where there were different plastic organ models around the room and students had to identify the tissues in each organ. The organ system triangles can be printed for students to use. Feedback to rowan.savage@hotmail.com or contact me directly on TES.

Homeostasis 2 part lesson - B1 biology

(0)
This is a 2 part lesson sequence for B1 biology where in lesson 1 students research what diabetes and hypothermia are. They they then create a PowerPoint presentation to explain what homeostasis is and what causes these 2 diseases. In lesson 2 they complete their presentations plus present to the class. Presentations are assessed using a 10 point guide that assesses presentation skill and scientific understanding. Feedback to my TES inbox please.

Gifted and talented series 2 - Lesson menu

I came across the idea for lesson menus from a CPD session that I attended and have since put them into over half of my total lessons. I am putting together a series of resources to help more able students in the classroom and I will be adding to this series over the coming year. This resource has been used for a Year 7 lesson on the history of the cell. Please provide feedback to: rowan.savage@hotmail.com. I will amend this with suggested improvements later in the year.

Acid rain video questions and answers with wordbank and challenge tasks

(1)
This a question sheet for students and an answer sheet for a YouTube video from The Fuse School on acid rain. The link to the video is in the worksheets. There is lots of differentiation for lower ability through the use of a wordbank and gap fill activities. Differentiation for higher ability is through use of chemical formulae, open questions and use of keywords such as 'enzyme' and 'combustion'. AFL is carried out by getting students to peer assess each others work and giving a total number of marks. Please rate this resource and leave feedback.
AS inorganic chemistry millionaire revision quiz

AS inorganic chemistry millionaire revision quiz

(2)
This is a Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? revision quiz designed for Edexcel AS unit 1 inorganic chemistry that would suit all exam boards. There are a total of 15 questions that cover these topics: gas moles, calculating moles, polarisation, ionic bonding, halogen bonding, volume conversion, concentration conversion, group 2 carbonates and enthalpy of combustion. Please rate this resource and leave feedback.

Evolution ICT research task - Gateway B2

This is a lesson activity that I designed for my year 10 grade D-B class. The worksheet can be printed in A4 then photocopied to A5 and stuck in student books. Task boxes can ticked as students complete tasks. The Natural History Museum (London, UK) website is excellent. Feedback to rowan.savage@hotmail.com

AFL Strategies 1 - Learning objectives

(1)
I am putting together a series of AFL strategies and I will be adding to this series over the coming year. This strategy has made a great difference to my classroom teaching and can easily be made kinaesthetic using a question ball (e.g. small soft football or teddy). Please provide feedback to: rowan.savage@hotmail.com. I will amend this with suggested improvements later in the year.
Chemistry KS3 and GCSE graded keywords for display

Chemistry KS3 and GCSE graded keywords for display

(2)
These are a comprehensive selection of chemistry keywords that students use at KS3 and GCSE. I have taken a lot of time to create this resource so that each keyword is carefully linked to Blooms taxonomy, cognitive demand and grades. This is explained in detail in the comments document. These keywords as a display will not only improve literacy in science but also make students aware of the words that they should be using at a particular target grade. Please rate this resource and leave a comment.
