This is a 10-20 minute assembly about the important issue of homelessness in the UK. It was originally a Year 8 tutor time PSHE session but it can be used as an assembly or easily lengthened for a whole PSHE or Citizenship lesson for KS3-KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13). The students reacted very positively to this session and began a campaign to raise money for the homeless. This fits into the PSHE, SMSC, FBV and Citizenship Statutory guidance.
This is a 15-20 minute assembly on the role of an MP. It has some specific information about Birmingham but this can easily be adapted to include your own MP by following the website and instructions in the Notes section. This was originally a Year 10 Citizenship tutor time session but could easily be lengthened to last a whole lesson. It covers the definition of an MP, their role and tasks, the importance of democracy, the structure of parliament, what issues young people may be struggling with today and an introduction to ‘Make Your Mark 2022’ with the Youth Parliament. Students reacted very well to this presentation.
It fits into the PSHE or Citizenship curriculums or can be used for a KS3, KS4 or KS5 (Ages 11-18 Years 7-13) assembly or whole school session on Fundamental British Values.
This is a 10-20 minute assembly on Storm Arwen and the devastation it has caused throughout the UK. It was originally used for a whole school tutor time Citizenship session at the start of December 2021 to explore the issues it raises. It is suitable for KS3, KS4 & KS5 (Ages 11-18, Years 7-13) and includes:

This lesson can easily be lengthened for two seperate hour long lessons if needed. The students reacted very positively to this lesson.
This is a 15 minute presentation about blood donation to encourage students to think about donating when they are older and the current need for blood in the NHS. It covers statistics, quotes from donors and their recipients as well as reasons why blood donation is important. It has two short video clips that engage the students well in learning about this important health issue and are downloaded so they will never disappear! There are discussion questions but no written tasks as this is meant for a quick overview in tutor time or similar. It can be shortened or lengthened according to the length of the session. This covers the new RSE and Health Curriculum statutory guidance and can be used in PSHE or Citizenship lessons as well. This is suitable for KS3, KS4, KS5 and possibly KS2. Ages 9-18.
This is a full lesson on an introduction to Hinduism covering their beliefs in god, festivals, beliefs, symbols, temple, worship etc. It includes a couple of short video clips and some discussion and written questions for students to complete. This session is suitable for an assembly for KS3-KS5 (Ages 11-18) but was originally used as a tutor time PSHE session for Year 11. This fits in with the new RSHE curriculum and the PSHE Curriculum. This was to inform the students about what was going on in the rail strikes, teach them the difference between public and private sector workers and give room for debate about industrial action.
