I have taught science for the last 15 years in secondary schools. I currently work in a school that caters for students that have special educational needs and social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. An activity to help students understand the lock and key theory of enzymes. They have to cut out the shapes that represent Amylase, Protease and Lipase enzymes and find the correct substrate that fits each enzymes active site. They then have to find the products of each reaction and use the word list to name each product correctly. This activity is good to use to check students understanding and progress of learning of digestive enzymes.

I am a red blood cell, where am I in the Circulatory system?

This activity helps students understand the pathway of the circulatory system. Students are to complete a cut and stick activity to match up descriptions of red blood cells to where they are in the circulatory system. This covers the lungs, heart, body cells, and the four major blood vessels of the heart. The students can then use the cards to produce a story board for “The journey of a Red Blood Cell through the Circulatory System”. This activity can be used for higher or lower ability students as higher level students can be challenged to add more detail into their story board.
