This quiz/word search is a useful tutorial activity or starter/plenary for a history lesson to celebrate black history month. Students have to identify 15 key people who have contributed to black history from clues, and then they have to find their names in a word search. It takes about 20-30 minutes to complete.

This lesson has been created for the study of President Nixon and the Watergate Scandal at A Level. It can be used ideally to support the teaching of the American Dream unit, however can be used for any post 16 study of President Nixon. It contains varied research activities; videos and primary source analysis to prepare students for high level evaluation skills needed for success at A Level.

One hundred questions in 60 minutes. This quiz can be done individually; in pairs or in groups depending on the size of the A Level class. It enables students to revise the content of the Year 12 course through competition, and is fun as an end of term activity. I often give prizes to the students who score the highest, although I have never had a 100% success yet!!! The questions are challenging and require 1 word/one sentence answers. Answers are included for self-assessment. This resource assesses and consolidates student knowledge while they are having fun.

This resource has been created for either key stage 2 students transitioning to secondary school, or key stage 1 students moving into middle school. It has a humanities theme and contains tasks; ice-breakers and games to help the students relax; build confidence and make relationships while they learn. It begins with an ice-breaker. The students then learn about chronology - a paper task in pairs, and then a challenge where they have to move around the room talking to each other. It end with a geography and RE game where again all of the new students can learn about each other. You will need about an hour to do all of the activities, however some can be cut out if time does not permit.

This is the seventh lesson in an 8 lesson scheme of learning for key stage 3 on the Industrial Revolution. It involves research into how the social conditions in the cities during the industrial revolution aided criminals and made solving crime very difficult for the police. Students are required to consider a variety of sources to reach a judgment in an extended writing task. All sources and the writing frame are included within the power point for copying. This could also be used as a GCSE resource to support the teaching of the historic environment on the crime and punishment unit. No text book is needed.

This lesson is the first lesson in the A Level Comparative Politics unit - it outlines the unit requirements, and introduces students to the origins of the US constitution (it can also be used for A Level History). It considers the historical setting of the constitution with a focus on key terms, and contains activities and discussions to extend student thinking. It also includes an individual research task on the founding fathers. This lesson would take an hour to teach, however the task may need to be completed as home study. It is fully resourced and no text book is required, however is based on the Pearson Edexcel A Level text book.

These lessons focus on the Tudor economy in the reign of Henry VII and the beginning of the age of exploration including the work of early explorers. They contain a wide range of activities to complete individually and in groups to help students to work on their interpretation and essay writing skills. They have been made for unit 1C The Tudor on the A Level AQA specification but can be used for any post 16 Tudor England course.
