This bundle contains two units of work What is Geography? What is History? for year 7. Each unit contains 6 lessons and is fully resourced, so no text book is needed. Lessons enable new year 7 students to demonstrate and consolidate their primary school learning while learning and developing new key skills essential for the study of history and geography in key stage 3 and beyond. This lesson has been created to recognise VE Day, and to help students look at source materials to reach a value judgment. It is suitable for most ages but particularly useful for either key stage 2 or 3. It starts with information about VE day and the background to the war in the air with clips; images and statistics. It then presents the students with a wide range of source material which they have to categorise by making inferences and tabulating information. The main task is a piece of writing in the form of a newspaper report where students are judged on how effectively they communicate the conclusions they have drawn from the sources. The lesson ends with a class discussion which can be differentiated. This is an appropriate lesson for VE Day, and takes about 1 hour to complete all activities.
