Close look at the importance of: pronouns, emotive language, rhetorical questions; sentence forms and variation and anecdotes… Very visual with fun tasks including Guess the Artist with rhetorical question song titles. Contextualising videos embedded for use without the need of internet connection, which aid learning massively. This gallery is fully animated and explains features with examples and some group tasks and discussion prompts. There are tasks to allow students to analyse pronouns and other features closely and in a sophisticated manner. Notes are designed to guide students in making a high-level response. Handout included, matches the ppt and pages appear on-screen for ease of use. There is an AO2 assessment task and an AO5/6 task for assessment at the end.

Good for most students to work independently but lower level students will need some support. It covers all the basic elements of writing for P2Q5 - Nonfiction. It has an example answer, a number of tasks to complete, format/layout of the main forms and some extra persuasive features like anecdotes and expert opinions.

Triangulating and embedding evidence is encouraged but the slides can easily be switched back if you choose. This could be spread out across a couple of weeks of 3hr sessions because it’s 45 slides long and has revision slides for basic terminology. It covers every Paper 1 question, linking directly to the original exam-style paper included - to which the presentation refers constantly, throughout. Practice skills for: AO1 - Identify Explicit Information AO2 - Explain, analyse and comment on a writer’s use of language. AO2 - Explain, analyse and comment on a writer’s use of Structure. AO4 - Evaluate critically, another person’s opinion of a text. AO5 - Creative & Descriptive Writing. It is aimed at 16+ due to the violence of the war scene and it might also be too much for lower level learners. If you have, however, ventured into descriptions from historical wars - check it out. It is very engaging with a visual interpretation to show before reading the text. It’s also laden with step-by-step animation. Each click leads you to the next logical point. Went through this today and was very easy to use…

This session goes through Paper 1 - Question 5, descriptive and narrative writing, as a practice session. It starts off comparing the mark scheme to an example with a task, following a set of animated annotations which are to be discussed as a group. Then move onto approaching an image for description and this includes an example, too. There is a list of figurative features which can be amended, as well as a task on making epic connections in creative writing. Following this, there is a small focus on titles and sentence starters. Finally, there is a writing challenge which uses a starting sentence and Christmas icons to stimulate and focus writing. As an added bonus: there is also a Christmas Full Paper 1 mock paper included. Ideal Paper 2 Starter Task which encourages students to use Hyperbole in their writing. It will also lead into a more in-depth language features session and encourages students to exaggerate and then extend with further words and phrasing.

Designed for a 1.5hr session in which students revisit figurative features and try to extend them but it could easily be stretched out longer. Starter is a split image with a prompt for half the group to annotate one half and vice-versa. Then share annotations and save for later student-led choice in the final summative task. There is a small, looped video of a burning fire (courtesy of pixabay.com). This helps to prompt vocabulary ideas and loops until stopped or on slide transition. Reminders of adjective/adverb use, as well as a mark scheme for upper level 3 (grade 5) through which you can explain or direct questions to students. With a bonfire night theme and an extract from a text about a fire… This fully animated session is meant for a quick 1.5 hour Paper 1 - Question 4 practice. It defines the term: ‘critical evaluation’, goes over strategy for the question, breaks down the level 3 mark scheme (grades 4-5) and provides a timed question and example part-response to it, after their own attempt. The starter is evaluating an image on safety. 2 sided handout means students will have to take some notes if they haven’t already in previous sessions. Alert Video Embedded Within the Title Slide - Resources cover SENSITIVE ISSUES… Be sure to gain consent and warn students before use…the video will help with that! This is great for anti-bullying week and will certainly make students think and provide ample natural opportunities for discussion… This is detailed, animated set covers AQA 8700 - Paper 1 Section A - Reading and includes example responses, differences between Language & Structure, Prep’ tasks and exam-style tasks for Questions 1 - 4 from Paper 1. This is a fantastic story to use and provides a great opportunity to promote an open culture in which people are encouraged not to be afraid of asking for help or voicing their concerns or opinions. Serious issues are brought to light via interesting and thought-provoking tasks on language analysis, structural analysis and evaluation. I left Q5 because it was hard enough reading a few hundred stories about abandoned animals in the Summer 2019 paper. I couldn’t face it so there is a homework task slide to link to Q5. It could be used to introduce or revise Sec. A because it assumes some knowledge but has some detail, also. It also has timers and mark schemes and anything required for tasks in a handout.

A fully animated, step-by-step, click-by-click presentation with matching handout. There are many resources for A02 but this particular session is packed with animated annotations, activities and a summative task. It also has a rather interesting topic and the pink is striking on the larger screen. Also includes is a Fast & Furious Starter Task and some language feature revision which is easily replaced with your own slide. There is also a scaffold worksheet - based only on the title - should some students struggle to reach the level of detail required.
