In this lesson, students will work towards the objective: calculate the area of parallelograms and triangles. They will be taught how to find the area of right-angled triangles first before moving onto all triangles and then parallelograms. They will see a range of examples on the engaging power point presentation and will complete a range of problems which call them to use their reasoning skills such as finding the missing side. 3 levels of differentiated worksheets are then provided with the answers for students to complete. In this lesson, students will learn that there are two types of reproduction in plants: sexual and asexual. They will learn about the life cycle of plants that reproduce sexually looking at pollination, fertilisation, seed dispersal and germination. They will also learn the different parts of flowering plants and will dissect a flowering plant using the guide to help them. They will then look at asexual reproduction in plants through tubers, runners and bulbs. They will consider the advantages and disadvantages with both. They will be quizzed throughout the lesson for retrieval and will then complete an activity sheet which will question their understanding. A knowledge organiser for the unit is included. In this lesson, students will learn that there are three parts of the circulatory system: the heart, blood vessels and blood. They will learn about the structure and function of the heart in detail through engaging PowerPoint slides, video clip and an online resource. They will be quizzed on the information they have learnt. There is also an optional link to an activity on dissecting a sheep’s heart before they label a heart and use arrows to show the direction of blood flow. Finally, they will be tasked to create their own script for an animation voice over similar to the YouTube clip watched which they can then use different platforms to record and edit their video. In this lesson, children will learn that people in the Iron Age commonly lived in hillforts, in roundhouses. They will learn what jobs the Iron Age people did and how warrior people lived. They will learn about the tribal kingdoms of the Celts and the religious practices of the Druids. They will consider how housing changed over prehistoric Britain and will complete a quick quiz on all that they have learnt. Following this, they will investigate Maiden Castle- one of the largest and most complex Iron Age hillforts in Europe before creating a poster persuading Iron Age people to come and live there! They will learn what the key words- oligarchy, monarchy and tyranny is and will understand how the direct democratic model worked in Athens. They will also learn about the Athenian criminal court system and will then enact two different scenarios using drama to better understand the systems. In this lesson, students will work towards the objective: To identify the value of each digit in numbers given to three decimal places and multiply and divide numbers by 10, 100 and 1000 giving answers up to three decimal places. They will first revisit the place value of numbers with up to 3 decimal places, looking at the value of digits and missing place values in numbers. They will then look at multiplying and dividing decimals by 10,100 and 1000: they will experiment with a place value grid looking for patterns between the numbers when multiplied or divided. A number of questions on the board will allow them to practise this skill. Finally they will complete a worksheet which challenges them to recognise patterns, answer word problems and create their own calculations for a partner. An answer sheet is provided. This is an engaging lesson which comes with an interactive power point presentation and all corresponding activity worksheets. It is designed for Year 6 but could easily be modified to suit lower KS2 and KS3.
