This set of resources includes 3x PPT, 7x word files and can be delivered over around 3 double lessons. We start by introducing learners to the four profitability ratios, completely broken down, step by step on the powerpoint so it is easy for students to see the logical steps and for the teacher to deliver. Plenty of calculation practice throughout the resource as can be seen on the main thumbnail, answers are provided for all questions on the powerpoint. In the second powerpoint, we look at the two liquidity ratios, again broken down, examples and practice questions with answers. We do similar activities for the final 3 efficiency ratios in the third powerpoint before finishing with the limitations of using ratio analysis to measure a businesses performance. Two links to kahoot quizzes, one for learning aim F and one is a more general unit 3 quiz, we finish the unit with none other than Mr. Zee’s personal favourite box plenary! This lesson introduces learners to various objectives set by businesses, we start by looking at what an objective is, then looking at the main objectives (for CTEC spec) before looking at some real examples of businesses that might have quite different objectives to each other. We look at a case study of a business that seems to have a few different priorities that could lead to them achieving their objective - a 12 mark question on ‘reputation’ as being an important objective, structure guidance and a concise model answer for students to look at when peer assessing using the marking grid provided. This resource can be used as a revision lesson for GCSE Business. The aim is to help consolidate key terms by playing a game. This could be used for remote learning if the document is sent out to players but ideally it would be in class with the cards cut out in a deck. 1 In pairs or teams - have at least one describer and one or more guessers 2 Roll the dice and look at the colour the dice lands on 3 The describer picks a card from the deck and demonstrates the key term to the guesser 4 The guesser has 30 seconds to guess the word 5 If correct, team goes again, if not, the next team rolls the dice 6 First team round the board three times wins (Note: the game can be adapted i.e. if no dice, you can just go in order i.e. first card marketing, then external influences etc.) This is an editable version so it can be adapted if you would like to map it to a different specification or course. This bundle of lessons is the ultimate resource for investment appraisal and can be delivered over 2-3 lessons. We introduce learners to the three main techniques of investment appraisal, we go through each one, with step by step, concise, clear and engaging examples before students have a go at practising the calculations. We start with payback, a few examples with answers and then students can practice, we then look at the advantages before going on to ARR. A good set of examples and questions for ARR, with answers popping in to see how we get to the end figure. We then go on to look at NPV with a few more examples and questions. Two kahoot quizzes with links to further consolidate knowledge of how to calculate payback, ARR and NPV. A 20 mark question which requires some calculation is included, with a concise model answer for students to use to develop their own answer. We finish with the box plenary as usual. This set of resources (1x PPT and 8x word docs) can be delivered over 3-4 lessons and introduces learners to the importance of business planning with an emphasis on cash flow forecasting. We start by looking at what’s included in a business plan and the purpose of creating one, a group matching cards activity to consolidate the contents of the business plan. We then go on to looking at the importance of a positive cash flow, and how to construct a cash flow forecast from scratch step by step (although this isn’t required it helps understand the topic well). Students then go on to consolidate this by creating a cash flow forecast for Ian Beale’s fish and chip shop, some further calculation practice followed. This lesson introduces learners to resistance to change, we start by looking at a real example in Kodak, before looking at how we can overcome the resistance to change. I have included some popular business models such as McKinsey 7s and Kotters 8 steps as these are change management models followed by businesses around the world, however students are not required to learn these, although it can help greatly in understanding how to manage change and overcome resistance. We go on to read a case study on a company that is looking to drive major change, students have the opportunity to roleplay a board meeting, each student is a different stakeholder explaining their views on the change. In groups, students are to feedback on the whole case study about the reasons for the change and how to overcome it. A few consolidation tasks and a box plenary to finish with. We start with looking at the formulas for each one, with broken down examples to illustrate the concepts. This lesson introduces learners to ethics and corporate social responsibility - this is also covered in theme 4, although with some differences such as the focus on pay and rewards. We start by looking at what is involved in ethics, with real examples of a number of unethical actions, for example the Primark factory in Bangladesh which collapsed and killed many workers, or the suicides that were committed in Foxconn in Shezhen due to the horrid working conditions. We look at the advantages of being a socially responsible company before looking at some facts into CEOs pay. A case study on CEOs salaries and bonus makes for an interesting discussion where students can prepare arguments for and against the very high bonus’ CEOs receive. Students can present their findings back in groups, and then answer a 12 mark question on the case study in class or for homework.
