PRIMARY LATIN KS3 LATIN ANIMALS FLASHCARDS POSTERS These Latin animals flashcards / display posters create a fabulous Latin look and feel in the learning environment. I’ve found that this also helps promote Latin as a real language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of Latin. They introduce learners to a range of animals in Latin from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarise themselves with how Latin words ‘look’, and how they are represented in the written form. Primary French FSL French Immersion These French Numbers 0-20 Halloween games cards are great for practising numbers in French with a focus on addition and subtraction - they also offer a really useful opportunity for multi-skill and cross-curricular learning. Children can develop their skills in word recognition and recall, pronunciation, speaking, listening and reading in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. My younger learners really love to work with the cards, and we play as often as we can in the run-up to Halloween. There are lots of games they like to play, and I’ve described several of them in the resource file. I always do a quick warm-up and recap of numbers before we play any number games, and the simple forwards and backwards counting presentation is ideal for this. KS3 LATIN PRIMARY LATIN BINGO LATIN VEGETABLES 100 DIFFERENTIATED BINGO GRIDS & 40 CALLING CARDS Children absolutely love to play bingo - it’s perfect for language learning. These Latin vegetables bingo games are differentiated, with varying degrees of challenge, and a multi-skill focus. I differentiate my bingo games by using picture-only cards, which are great for general vocab consolidation and listening skills. There are 40 9-square grids in total, and there’s a set of color (which I sometimes laminate so that I can just get them out whenever I need to - make sure students have wipe-clean pens on their tables!). I’ve also included the same grids in black and white - simply print these out. I sometimes give out pages with four grids on, and let students choose which order they play the grids in - they have multiple pages - or sometimes, I get the students to cut out the grids, place them in a small bowl or similar on tables and they then randomly choose grids - depending on the size of your class, you will definitely have several winners per game! The grids are designed for all the squares to be crossed off in order to win the game. I also use word-only grids to help students focus more on their reading skills, so I’ve included 40 Latin word-only 9-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages). The workbook focuses on the mechanics of conjugation, rather than usage, but I find it useful to remind students of a number of things when focusing on or revising tense and verb conjugation. For example, students whose first language is English do often try to conflate what they know about conjugation in both languages, and I frequently see attempts such as io sto lavorare for I am working or similarly io faccio lavorare for I do work. I refer frequently the difference in usage, and this is important particularly when explaining when and in which contexts to use the simple present and the continuous / progressive present tense. GCSE ITALIAN KS4 ITALIAN KS3 ITALIAN REFLEXIVE VERBS LIST I give my language learners of all grades and learning phases a whole series of reference lists, that build up into a really comprehensive Italian vocabulary reference bank over the course of their language learning programme. They’re really popular with my students, as they know they can just go to their reference file or folder, and find what they need. They tell me that they feel far more confident about their Italian when they have a good grasp of core high-frequency Italian vocabulary. They’re great for quick Italian vocabulary quizzes too. There are of 25 high-frequency Italian reflexive verbs in the infinitive form, alphabetically both Italian-English and English-Italian - my students get these pretty much at the beginning of their program, even before we start to work on conjugation. If my group is small, and depending on the particular work we’re doing, I provide students with a set of double-sided and laminated reference resources. PRIMARY ITALIAN KS3 ITALIAN DAYS OF THE WEEK WORD SEARCH Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word in Italian, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This freebie features a word search focusing on the days of the week in Italian, key beginner vocabulary for Italian learners. This search grid is***Italian to English***, where learners are prompted with the Italian words, and look for them in Italian in the grid. For additional consolidation, the grid also features an English word list that they have to complete, really putting students’ knowledge to the test! Students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. Having a good bilingual dictionary to hand is also a good idea, as this provides a further focus on developing literacy in both Italian and English, and facilitates learner independence. There is an answer grid for the word search, so that students can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys also provide students with an additional opportunity to engage with language, and they’re a great teacher time-saver too, which is always a good thing! The word search is in landscape format, as I’ve found this to be the best format for English-speaking beginner learners of Italian, as it mirrors the common direction of reading from left to right. PRIMARY SPANISH CHRISTMAS NUMBERS 0-20 ADDITION & SUBTRACTION CARDS WITH WHOLE-GROUP WARM-UP GREAT FOR YEAR 7 TOO! This is a set of Primary Spanish Numbers 0-20 Christmas games cards. I created them for my younger learners to practise their Spanish numbers around Christmas time - they love the Christmas theme! I’ve found that Christmas is a great time to revisit language learned earlier in the year, and the games cards are also multi-skill - reading, speaking, listening - they’re ideal for honing numeracy skills too. Children really like to work together as they play the games. I’ve described several games that are really successful for us that you can try. I always do a quick warm-up and recap of numbers before we play any number games, and the simple forwards and backwards counting presentation is ideal for this. There are 72 calculations in total - 36 addition and 36 subtraction. The answer cards are marked with a plus or minus sign. This means that there are 144 cards in total - I always laminate my languages games cards because they’re far easier to work with and last for years - so do try to laminate them if you can.
