Based upon the Eduqas Design Technology course, the attached file is intended to be used along side my E-Textiles project, but it could be adapted as required and used as a guide and support for other projects using a sketchbook.
The Example sketch book includes Task analysis, Research and Design Ideas example pages, all based around the sketch book idea.
The attached guide gives students step by step instructions about what should go on the page.
Use this on it's own, or alongside the Sketchbook example and the Presentation Folder guide and Presentation Folder example. There is also a guide to creating a PCB using Circuit Wizard available as part of the bundle, plus a student Homework book to help the students to consolidate their learning.
A comprehensive set of information cards giving details of a range of electronic output components that may be used by students.
These cards can be used on screen or printed.
Students can work independently to design their own systems with all of the information they need to select the correct components at their finger tips.
Guide to creating a sketch book and a presentation portfolio for GCSE Design Technology.
Including guide to sketch book,

How 2 create a PCB based upon the 555 astable and 4017
Design Technology Homework booklet
Turn your students into independent learners with these well presented, informative information cards.
Packed with information about the Transistors, Darlington Pairs, 555 Monostable and Astable, 4017b Decade counters, 4026 Decade counters, Logic Gates, the NAND gate as all other gates, Operational Amplifiers - Inverting, Non-inverting and as Comparators, and Microcontrollers.
I designed these information cards to be used by students who are developing system diagrams. Students often feel overwhelmed when it comes to designing systems because they are unsure which input, process and output components to choose and they are unsure what they all do.
These cards provide the answers so students can easily assess whether the component will meet their needs. Obviously the students will learn much more about the individual components along the way!
Buy this resource on its own or as part of a bundle including a starter on systems diagrams, and activity where students design systems in order to meet specific design briefs and a set of Input component information cards.
Output component cards will be online soon.
Template for GCSE students.
GCSE students struggle to ensure that they have included everything that they need to gain maximum marks in their controlled assessment.
This E-Portfolio template can be used in one of two ways, either each individual student can edit their own copy with their own project details, alternatively this can be used as a reminder of what is needed on the page to be displayed to all students via the white board.
Aimed at encouraging thorough analysis and evaluation throughout the project and to encourage independent learning this portfolio has proved to be highly effective.
Based on the Eduqas Design Technology Specification, this resource is aimed at developing students understanding of the different types of fossil fuels and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Fully interactive this resource encourages team work to read through information cards and then interpret their findings into a list of advantages and disadvantages for each of the fossil fuels.
Each slide has a full description about the suggested use.
Slides are animated to add interest.
Many more resources linked to the new design and technology specification to follow in the coming days and weeks.
Based on the Eduqas GCSE Design and Technology specification, this range of starter activities introduce some of the technical principles as described by the specification.
This resource covers:-
Market pull
Technology Push
Product Life Cycle
Globalisation
Consumer rights
There are full instructions per slide with suggestions about how this resource can be used most effectively.
There are a range of student hand-outs designed to keep activities relevant, interesting and interactive.
The new far reaching design and technology specifications for GCSE students provide new challenges to teachers due to the vast range to be covered. I hope to help address these issues through my resources.
Further resources linked to this course will be published over the coming days and weeks.
Information cards for 19 different input components.
Giving information about how the component works, circuit symbols, applications and advantages and disadvantages of each component.
Very detailed information cards in language that is accessible to students.
Great for GCSE students studying the new GCSE Design Technology specifications.
This resource is aimed at helping students to understand how to develop systems diagrams and which components will best suit the needs of the design brief.
The starter activity introduces the concept of systems diagrams and asks students to correctly identify Input, Process and Output components. The students are then given the information cards and asked to select suitable components to meet the design briefs.
I created this resource having taught electronic products for years and finding that I needed a way to make the principles behind the development of systems ideas more intuitive.

Genie Microcontrollers offer students a fantastic array of inventive opportunities to develop a broad range of projects. Students are able to use their imagination and solve real life problems with these low cost PIC's, however managing a classroom full of students who all want to develop different circuits can be a challenge.
I developed the Genie how 2 book in order to give students the opportunity to independently create their own circuits with minimal teacher support.
The students start by creating a basic Genie E18 circuit (I have found this to be the most versatile and best value for money). The student then use the guide to show them how to add whichever input and output components that they choose.
Students can follow the guide to create a PCB layout and to create a flow chart to program their microcontroller.
I have found this to be a very effective tool within my classroom and it encourages differentiation and independent learning.
I hope you find the guide as useful as my students do.
This resource was created for year 6 summer school students.
The file includes a 2D design file to cut the parts needed to make a balloon racer. I found that corrugated card worked better as it is light weight, although drying times are longer. I gave students the choice of using either card or plywood, or a combination of both.
Great, fun activity for students. Principles of a design brief and specifications have also been included, along with some extension tasks to be completed while the glue dries.
A 54 page, easy to follow PowerPoint guide on how to create a PCB for a lap counter.
Can be used on its own or as part of the lap counter project bundle.
I use this project for year 9 students, but would be suitable for year 9 or 10, maybe even as GCSE project. Can be used for Electronics clubs etc.
If you find this guide helpful then please give me some positive feedback.
You can find more resources in my shop, you can also find me on Facebook, search ElectroNic
This easy to follow PowerPoint presentation is suitable for teaching students about binary and logic gates.
Students should gain an understanding of the binary counting system.
In addition to this students will learn about the various logic gates, producing truth tables and combining logic gates.
The 555 timer has been the staple of Electronics projects in school and for the hobbyist for many years.
Normally used in either Astable or Monostable, this 8 PIN little IC can be used in a wide range of projects.
Most Electronic Products exams have had at least one question relating to the 555 timer over the years. As the Design Technology syllabus broadens to include aspects of a Design Technology specialist areas this resource explains the calculations used to calculate the frequency of the astable circuit and the time delay of the monostable circuit, as well as the Mark : Space ration calculations.
Questions are included to test students knowledge.
This resource is a free sample of my much bigger file that is for sale on this site.
I have used this resource regularly over recent years and students designing their own PCB have found it invaluable,
This small snippet shows how to add a Piezo to your Genie Microcontroller circuit. It also shows you how to create the PCB and programming flow chart.
If you like this free resource then why not take a look at some of my others.
Thanks for looking.
A simple PowerPoint task to be used with whiteboards.
Symbols or component images appear on first click. Second click reveals the name.
Students should write their answers on their whiteboards and hold them up.
This free how 2 including images is aimed to help students neatly and effectively add flying leads to an LED.
