This lesson introduces learners to different methods of making payments. There are quite a few methods to remember, so an engaging activity here which can be used in two ways - a kinaesthetic matching activity where students match the payment method to their definitions, pros and cons OR the information can be placed around the class and students can be in grous focusing on for example, just finding advantages of certain payment systems or just definitions (for differentiation too).

This lesson introduces learners to cross elasticity of demand, building on the last two lessons on PED and YED. We look what XED measures, the formula and complements and substitutes.
Students have the opportunity to practise plenty of calculations on XED, some of which require percentage change to be calculated before calculating XED. All answers are provided and questions use engaging products such as PS5 and games, Coca Cola and Pepsi etc.

This lesson introduces learners to the determination of prices. The starter introduces learners to the equilibrium point through a plotted graph which they draw, from this we introduce the concepts of excess demand and excess supply, with step by step animated examples for students to easily understand the concept. Some consolidation activities before we look at the price mechanism and the invisible hand and the three functions.

This lesson introduces learners to mission statements and corporate objectives, we start with reading some statements from businesses to identify their missions, we look at corporate objectives and how they come from the mission. a 2 and 12 mark question, both with model answers for students to peer assess with. Structure guidance is given to embed important exam skills right from the start of the course. The questions are based on an engaging case studio on Lego about their mission and corporate objectives. Guidance for peer assesment is straight forward for students and after a few times they will get the hang of doing this like examiners!

This lesson introduces learners to the important concept of opportunity cost, we start by looking at what opportunity cost actually means with some examples, we then have a number of scenarios where students might find themselves in, in the near future. Students are presented with two options, they have to make a choice, we discuss the reasons for their choice and any depends factors (all AOs developed). In the last scenario, we look at whether a student should go it alone or open up a business with a friend - students consider the opportunity cost and answer the 10 mark question, structure guidance and a concise model answer provided.

This double lesson introduces learners to the various stakeholders, we start by looking at the different types of stakeholders involved in a business, we then look at their key interests, a choice of tasks on how to consolidate this is offered (two worksheets - matching for lowers and non-matching for more challenge) followed by evaluating the most important interest for each stakeholders. Once students know the interests well, we can start to look at how stakeholders might conflict with each other - a few examples given here.
We read a case study on Unilever, students prepare presentations on whether they should focus on shareholders or stakeholders, this is in the form of an essay question so students could answer it after the presentation, or for homework. This lesson introduces learners to factors that affect the success or failure of a business, financial and non-financial. We start by looking at what a SWOT analysis is and the types of questions we need to ask ourselves to find out our SWOT. We then contextualise with a few examples such as Mcdonald’s, Thornton’s and a brief sorting activity with Apples SWOT.
We then go on to look at a concise case study on BHP the large mining company, students can work in pairs or a group to assess the companies position using SWOT, the outcomes of this can be used to answer a 12 mark question based on the case study. A concise model answer is included for students to peer assess. We finish off by looking at ways to interpret the performance of a business before two kahoot quizzes (one on SWOT and one on unit 1) to end the unit!

This double lesson introduces leaners to indirect taxes and subsidies. We look at different types of indirect tax such as specific unit tax and ad valorem before looking at real life examples of these taxes so students can paint a picture of how it works in the UK. Animated step-by-step diagrams to help students with drawing the diagrams in their answers. We look at the sugar tax and students debate for and against the tax before going on to subsidies. For subsidies, we look at examples and diagrams as well before finishing off with a kahoot quiz and box plenary.

This bundle of 3 lessons introduces learners to economic growth and a range of concepts within economic growth such as real vs nominal GDP, total GDP vs per capita and GNP. We start by looking at GDP charts to identify areas of growth and recession. We look at real life examples of countries with positive and negative growth with stimulating discussions. We also look at the limitations of using GDP as a measure of standard of living - a 12 mark question with a concise model answer for students to look before peer assessing and making improvements to WWW and EBI.
Finally, we look at happiness and how it is really included when measuring how well an economy is performing, we look at the 7 factors that determine happiness as identified by Laynard. Purchasing power is compared with a great example from spending in India compared to the UK.

This lesson introduces learners to the components of aggregate demand before looking at each component in greater detail later in the course. We start by breaking down the definition of aggregate demand to undestand the components involved. We look at the AD curve and understand why it slopes downwards and why it is different to the micro demand curve although looks the same. We look at movements and shifts in the AD curve and students have the opportunity to practice drawing the diagram with shifts - answers provided. A box plenary to finish with.

This lesson builds on students’understanding of the impact of economic growth. We look at each economic agent and talk through the advantages and disadvantages of growth to them. Once the knowledge is there we look at an 8 mark question to develop exam technique - a model answer is provided for students to look at.
