This is a re-vamped version of a text I have uploaded elsewhere. It now has additional exercises. The text has been simplified slightly and is now followed by (i) a comprehension activity (ii) a find the phrase exercise (iii) grammar practice of TMP (iv) a manipulation exercise (v) a translation exercise (vi) a speaking activity and (vii) an essay
Practice of
(i) e - è - é
(ii) different pronunciations of the letter c
(iii) some common words with accents that distinguish meaning rather than sound
Powerpoint story in which Bella from the 'Twighlight' series describes a typical day. The text appears slowly, giving students time to read and work out the meanings. As a follow up you could ask the class for ideas, such as likes and dislikes, to augment the text on each slide and make the story their own.
Interactive, self-marking multi-choice quiz on Imperfect forms of common verbs. The file has 60 verbs embedded, but will create a quiz with a random selection of 20 each time it is opened. Just about never the same twice. Works on IW and PC.
HIGHER level reading text about the Olympic Torch, a factory in Coventry, Didier Drogba's surprise role in the relay, plus a bit of symbolism. The text is followed by questions in English, a 'find the phrase' exercise picking out the different tenses in the text, an 'adapt the phrase' exercise and a writing task. NB The opening statement about the torch having arrived in England won't be true until the 17th of May. Edit the text if you use it before.
The Powerpoint contains a set of questions which form a scaffold for pair work. There is a stop watch on every slide to encourage the students to try to improvise a one-minute answer to each question.
Reading comprehension activity. I have jumbled up an account of the plot of Mr Bean's holiday. Students have to read the eight mini-texts and put them in the correct order. Helpful, but not absolutely essential, to have seen the film. I have provided a solution and the original text. As a follow-up students could put the text into the first person or into the past tense or both.
Three short character studies of Gerd Wiesler, Georg Dreyman and Christa-Maria Sieland. Each study contains an anomaly, which the students must identify and delete. (PS typos removed)
Text in which a number of young Germans express their views about environmental issues. The text is followed by (i) an exercise in which students must make notes from the text on the causes of environmental problems, the problems themselves and the possible solutions and (ii) a scaffolded discussion.
The stimulus text here is an edited version of 'Internetdiscussion' which I've already uploaded. The statements for and against school uniform have been shortened and adapted slightly to fit the attitudes of the lead characters in the film 'Die Welle'. The texts are followed by comprehension activities and a manipulation exerecise.
