Children will draw a picture of themselves when they start Reception.
The picture is added to their learning journey.
It is lovely to compare their drawings from starting Reception, to the end of Reception.

Year 1 topic - Dinosaurs

Various letters from ‘Dino’ - our cuddly toy who sent us letters and gave us challenges to complete throughout the topic.
Maths worksheets - non-standard units. All differentiated. Templates are provided, which need to be cut out. I made dinosaur footprints in our outdoor area using soil.
Discussion writing - we talked about whether we would like to have a dinosaur as a pet today. Differentiated worksheets/templates to help children structure their for and against opinions.
What happens next - YouTube Video - my children watched the video and talked about what may happen next. They wrote the end of the story in their writing books.

I put these in my sound box at the start of the year.
Children add things around the classroom to the boxes.
Labels for phase 3 sound boxes
My reception class discussed rules and what was ‘fair’ and ‘not fair’ / ‘right’ and ‘wrong’.
We cut out the sentences and matched them to either ‘right’ or ‘wrong’. We discussed each one first and re-wrote them to be fair.
I cut out these questions and put them in a foam dice. We threw the dice and took turns asking and answering the questions. We do slot drilio every day for 10-15 minutes.
