This resources contains a couple of mock exam questions for KS4 English students to complete to help them prepare for the writing section of the exam. Both questions are 48 marks, the first involves writing a letter and the second requires students to write an article/magazine. Further prompts/relevant information is provided in the resource.

An incredibly useful resource for English students (ranging from KS2-4) on all the different types of pronoun, grouped by the correct 1st, 2nd and 3rd person (singular and plural) to use when referring to the subject, object, possessive (singular and plural) and reflexive. The main advantage of this resource is its relevance and the various differentiation opportunities it provides. KS2 and KS3 students in particular could keep this by their desk as an aid to inform their writing and use the appropriate pronoun whereas KS4 students may be able to use this resource to analyse various different types of texts and the features contained within them. .

A really useful peer assessment template for KS3/GCSE pupils entitled ‘2 stars and a Wish’ with it being a framework for pupils to peer assess other students’ work and offer constructive feedback. The 2 ‘Stars’ encourage pupils to think of the positive aspects of other students’ work (with prompts) whilst the ‘wish’ allows them to advise on what could be improved in the student’s work. This resource is particularly useful as it can be used in any subject, extending its relevance and applicability. It can be used as part of a plenary activity in getting the students’ to mark each others work or as part of any peer assessment. It encourages students to become more reflective and analytical of their own and others’ work.

An incredibly useful resource for sixth form students who are thinking about going to university as it explains the university marking system in a nutshell in a colourful and interactive manner. A great handout for sixth form teachers/students to give to their form group as it is something that they can keep to help them with their studies for a long time.

This could be a useful accompaniment to a PSHE/Citizenship lesson or for students to use in their own personal life. This covering letter was for a job as a Teaching Assistant at a local primary school. This would pair well with the covering letter template resource also in my store so that pupils could cross-reference the two.

A great resource for secondary school students to help them think reflectively and promote higher-order thinking skills in any subject. This learning mat summarises the 6 thinking hats, defining them for pupils and giving them ideas on how they can apply them to the work or activity they’re completing. In my practice at schools I’ve had my students keep these learning mats on their desk whilst they are completing their work (especially group work, writing and critical thinking tasks), often encouraging them to consult them in order to get more thoughtful responses from. them.

A handy pair of tables that sixth form students can use to compare both university courses and the actual universities themselves. This would be a very useful resource to assist with their UCAS applications in helping them to decide which course (and university) is right for them out of their choices and help them make an informed decision. It could be used by students as a template to create a CV to apply for jobs, sixth form, college or any other further or higher education establishment. It could also be used in PSHE lessons, form time or career sessions by teachers as a handout/activity to show pupils what a model CV looks like and includes. It could also be a resource as part of an activity where students create their own CV.

This learning mat is a great resource for sixth form students as the advice contained within it is applicable to any subject that involves essay writing. It’s a great revision tool for students due to its comprehensive and accessible nature.

Of most use to college and university students and those in KS4, this essay provides clear and simple instructions on how to be critical (evaluate) in an essay, providing 3 main frameworks from which to do so.

This resource is intended for sixth form and university students and is an example of a first class essay, for which the topic was Mathematical Modelling. The essay is annotated with commentary (in red) which describes why the essay was a first and the steps the author went through in completing the essay as well as some general hints and tips. This could be used as part of a study skills workshop for students or just a general seminar on what constitutes good essay writing. An example of an activity for this resource could be to omit the commentary and ask the students themselves to annotate the essay and comment on why they think it was a first, before then resupplying them with the essay but this time with the commentary. This may be a useful way of assessing students’ perceptions of what it takes to get a first in an essay.

This is a useful revision aid for A Level English students summarising the theories of Child Language Acquisition. All major theorists are covered including Skinner, Piaget, Vygotsky, Chomsky and Lenenberg and how these theories correspond to the features of a child learning language in data and in general with short, but succinct explanations of each theory of child language acquisition.
