I am currently a Head of Modern Languages in a large secondary school in the North East Of England. I also work with the local University with PGCE MFL students, an area of my work I thoroughly enjoy. I am passionate about teaching and learning, and have a particular interest in the teaching of grammar and of literary texts to develop reading, writing and listening skills. I am currently working on developing a range of resources to support the study of Le Petit Nicolas and the series of books.

the wheel ! My students love it ! try it to try and see who remembers what, the numbers could be allocated to students who are picked to answer questions about the lesson or could be hiding a question about the lesson. Can be class or peer activity ! Bonne chance

I have three boxes (one green, one pink as could not find orange, one red) In these I place different styles of help and support to help writing in lessons or even when setting homework. I would place the translation in the green box, the french clues in the pink box and the english clues in the red box.

The present vs the perfect tense in French

The aim of this activity is not only to guide students to use both tenses accurately but to also show them the importance of other grammatical aspects such as the use of time expressions, connectives and opinions, as well as sentence development.

Use with the timers for competition, use without and wait for students to give appropriate answers on mini whiteboards, great for revision for all Key Stages, I made them over time and can add more, feedback welcome ( favorites are normally the snakes and ladders )

with the audio file. The first activity can be used as a card sort for students to place the text in order as they hear the song. The 3 remaining worksheets are for differentiation- gap fill with no help, gap fill but verbs in the infinitive have to be placed in the imperfect and gap fill with students selcting the correct verb in each line.

I found this which I created about 4 years ago ! Thought I'd share this as it brings good memories of my previous school, summer periods and welcoming the year 6 in our mFL department. Please amend for your own use and do what you want with it, I used a mini soft ball as well etc.. card sort etc.. I have added the story, apologies for leaving it late for those who asked, you can exploit this in many ways, listening for gist then reading for gist etc..

This is to help students with pronouncing and recognising various sounds , which they may find hard. Parts are highlighted to support students in recognising patterns. My year 8 enjoyed this, even year 10, dead simple, but works. Tried and tested !

I created this Power Point for an hour with the year 6 Primary pupils coming for their induction day. My aim was to work on skills and the resource was shared with all staff involved in MFL. The feedback given by staff and pupils was positive so I am hoping it will help others now.

Hopefully this will help in motivating students who can find it hard to understand the concept of story teeling/ naarative, it did help my y9. I used the card sorts to support ( the sngle words being the starter then used the phrases for sequencing to see if they could reconstruct the story. Could also read and ask students to show you the correct phrase .

You will find the script on the French site called 1 jour 1 actu. It contains short clip with key words in authentic French. It goes quite fast, hence all the resources attached to support students through the study of authentic resources and texts, particularly for the new GCSE MFL and A Level ( 2016 ). All feedback welcome and appreciated as usual. I will add more resources as I go along on this topic, which should engage most learners.

Building blocks to show students how to add. Refers to a style of writing/style and students could be encouraged to use another tense. This includes mini review with mini whiteboard, opportunities for peer assessment.

These slides explain the conditional, set objectives and outcomes and guide speaking and writing about ideal vacation. The second PowerPoint contains two extra slides, one has demonstrated the easy and harder way to use the conditional , one slide is called 12 verbes avec le de as it gives you a chance to roll two dice, then ask students to write the matching verb onto a mini whiteboard using the easy or harder option
