A few weeks ago, we used edu-Twitter to invite people to explain why they work in the FE sector - offering a chance to win a number of prizes. The responses didn’t disappoint, with people from right across the sector sharing their passion for further education.

Why I love working in further education

#WhyIWorkInFE

Because I often wonder if my own early education could have been a more positive, supportive and compassionate experience if FE had been promoted and celebrated the way that it deserves. https://t.co/UTRqtDxe1E

#WhyIWorkInFE
When I was in my teens and thinking about my future career, I always thought I needed to to a job with purpose. I wanted to do something that had meaning and was about people not profits. I started in FE straight after Uni and knew I’d found the place for me.

#whyIworkInFE There is never a dull day and every one of those days could involve you making a life-changing difference for the better to your learners. I also feel so lucky to work alongside so many wonderful colleagues in the FE sector. https://t.co/87D0b8np4D

#WhyIWorkinFE For some it’s a second, third, fourth, fifth chance to understand how they learn and the power education has in shaping future career choices. For some it a natural progression from school. It’s always our passion and pleasure. It’s FE! #BadBrownieCo https://t.co/mcgjLYuaDx

FE is a mutual learning ground whether you are a student or member of staff, passion holds the sector together. Supporting students, keeping it real & everyone being given as many chances as they need (I was that person once) - this is why we do it - this is #whyIworkinFE https://t.co/KrbiXUvBEk

Seeing young people be successful and kick back against an education system that didn’t suit them is one reason #WhyIWorkInFE but also the mix of people I get to meet and work with, it’s the perfect cocktail everyday

To give students of all ages the best chance at success I have had 16 right up to 64 and the passion they have knowing that education can help shape their life. Also the people that work in FE are the most amazing people can’t wait to get back to the staffroom #WhyIWorkInFE

#WhyIworkInFE I am passionate about the opportunities that lifelong learning facilitates and the truly transformational impact it can have upon a persons life. It really is the gift that can keep giving, empowering someone to be the best version of themselves ?

It’s the opportunity to make a difference especially when they’ve not had it easy at school or if they have come back to education later. Reigniting a spark, almost. For learning with purpose, rather than because one must. #WhyIWorkInFE https://t.co/oIEud5i2fX
