Will Quince has been reappointed as an education minister tonight after resigning yesterday morning.

Mr Quince resigned from his post as children’s minister yesterday after saying he had “repeated assurances on Monday to the media which have now been found to be inaccurate” on the scandal involving fellow Conservative MP Chris Pincher.

He said on Twitter that he was resigning with “great sadness” but had “no choice”.

It was announced tonight that Mr Quince is now to be made a middle-ranking education minister in the latest round of ministerial appointments, Downing Street has said, as Mr Johnson rebuilds his administration.

This afternoon, the prime minister announced his intention to stand down as Conservative Party leader and began appointing ministers to multiple roles.

Earlier today, James Cleverly became the third education secretary in the space of as many days following the resignation this morning of Michelle Donelan, who was only appointed on Tuesday.

Mr Quince resigned from his role as children’s minister yesterday saying he had “no choice”.

He was followed soon after by former schools minister Robin Walker.

Tonight Mr Quince posted on social media to explain his return to government.

He said: “In my letter on Wednesday I set out how hard it was stepping away from a job that I love, working every day to improve the life chances of children and young people.

“Pending the appointment of a new PM in the coming weeks, I have been asked and agreed to serve in HM Government.”
