The Covid-19 Education Recovery Group‘s latest weekly infographic on data relating to children and young people in schools in Scotland has been published.

Here are some of the key figures that the update includes about the impact of the coronavirus pandemic north of the border:

3,302 Children and young people aged 2 to 17 in Scotland have tested positive for Covid-19 since the start of the outbreak, as of Sunday 25 October (for the week to 18 October, the figure was 2,566).

731 Children and young people aged 2 to 17 tested positive for Covid-19 among the 5,473 children and young people who were tested in the week ending 25 October (in the week to 18 October, 593 out of 5,036 tested positive).

90.78% The attendance rate in local authority schools on Tuesday 27 October (6.0 per cent of absences were for reasons not related to Covid-19, and 3.2 per cent were for Covid-19-related reasons). The lowest rate recorded since the summer was 84.2 per cent on 28 August.

23,034 Pupils were not in school either all or part of the day because of Covid-19 related reasons, compared with a high of 25,022 on 26 August.

2,206 Staff were absent as a result of Covid-19-related reasons, of which 1,326 were teaching staff and 880 were other school-based staff. For comparison, when Tes Scotland reported on the equivalent data for 22 September, 1,596 were absent for the same reasons.

77,508 Children were attending a childcare setting, while 2,237 had a Covid-19-related absence from childcare (it was 992 out of 72,681 on 22 September)

731 (3.8 per cent) Childcare staff were absent as a result of Covid-19-related reasons (based on a 51 per cent response rate); on 22 September, this figure was 356 (2 per cent), based on a 48 per cent response rate.
