After 11 months of hard slog, it’s finally time to hang up that jacket you only wear at playtime, stash away those whiteboard pens and indulge in six wonderful marking-free weeks. But are you absolutely sure the teacher in you is ready to let it all go? Here are five signs that prove teaching is more than just a job:
 

  1. Thoughts of exams are never far away
    You’ve snuck next year’s exam specifications in the middle of your copy of 50 Shades…and you’re not sure which is more engaging.


     
  2. You’re always equipped
    It’s 30 degrees, but you’re still carrying around a 35-litre rucksack stuffed full of “useful” items, including an umbrella, a glue stick and a fully equipped first aid kit. Just in case.


     
  3. You fight the urge to correct
    You can’t help but turn around and tut a little too loudly when you hear people getting facts wrong at museums. Or while sightseeing. Or anywhere, for that matter…


     
  4. You’re always on your guard
    You do a visual sweep of the sunbeds every time you make it to the pool, just to make extra sure there’s definitely nobody there who will greet you on the first day of term with, “I SAW YOU IN YOUR BIKINI, MISS!”

  5. You’re still taking the register
    With impressive accuracy, you stop everything to do a headcount every hour, on the hour. Useful for those occasions when your partner gets fed up of holidaying with a teacher and wanders off...
