I have been a primary school teacher for many years and have taught all age groups, specialising in English and later on, special needs. I have recently taken early retirement. I know how busy you are & how hard you work. I aim to produce the resources you would have made yourself, if you had had the time. If you have bought any of my resources, I would really appreciate it if you would review them. Many thanks!

Alien Planet Story mats to aid creative writing

Alien Planet Story mats to aid creative writing

(0)
These 2 story mats are designed to improve children's vocabulary and to help them to write more independently. They are on PPT so you can display them for the whole class or print them off to be used individually. The first one is to help children to describe an alien planet. There are many different ideas for landscapes and features that they could encounter. The second is an aid to describing an alien. I would suggest that you get the children to draw their own alien first, thinking about how it moves, what is sounds like, smells like (!) and what it eats etc. Obviously they can use the mat to give them ideas. Then they will be ready to write this part of their story. The mats are fully editable so you can change them to suit your children. For more of my resources, including story mats, see my shop - https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Jazel Feedback would be lovely!

Four week unit using this lovely mystery book for lower juniors. The children learn how an author builds up a spooky atmosphere and they write a long mystery story of their own over the weeks. They 'discuss writing similar to that which they are planning to write in order to understand and learn from its structure, vocabulary and grammar'. Grammar exercises on adjectives, plurals, speech punctuation, apostrophes and similes. Other activities include writing a witchy recipe, a book review and designing a book jacket. Everything is differentiated with support for lower ability children and it is all fully editable for you to adapt for your class. If you download this and find it useful, please write a review - or if it needs improving. More of my resources can be found in my shop: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Jazel

Newspaper/ Journalistic lesson plans and presentations - space themed - Alien life found on Zog

Children study article 'Weird Egg Rock found on Mars' to find features of a journalistic text. They work in pairs using given check list and then work through these together as a class on whiteboard. You can then explain to them that alien life has been found on Planet Zog. What do they think it would be like? Display picture. They then draw their own alien found on their own planet and plan an article about it on their planning sheets. Finally they write it up on a newspaper template. Everything is fully editable. Meets these objectives - Discussing writing similar to that which they are planning to write in order to understand and learn from its structure, vocabulary and grammar Identifying the audience for and purpose of the writing, selecting the appropriate form and using other similar writing as models for their own. Feedback would be much appreciated. For further resources see my shop - https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Jazel

Combine words to make sentences and sequence sentences to form short narratives - Little fish theme

(0)
Two presentations (either PPT or Smartboard) to help children to sequence sentences to form a short narrative. The first one helps children to use adjectives. Children first choose a fish to describe to their partner. Can they guess which one it is? They then write a description of the fish, using given sentence openers. LA children have an outline help them. HA can go on to write about what the fish is doing today. The second presentation shows a fish going for a swim. The children have to guess what sea creature he sees first as the picture is partly obscured. Then what does he see next? They can also guess the time word used. They then write sentences to describe what he sees on his journey. Again, there is an outline to help LA writers and higher ability writers can continue the story. Everything is fully editable so you can change it to suit your class. For further resources see my shop - https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Jazel

Worksheets presented on a ppt with 5 pages, each showing a different rule for the past tense. Although designed to be used as worksheets it could be shown to the whole class to explain what to do and as an oral exercise. It can be photocopied as individual worksheets or printed and laminated for use with small groups or for working independently. It is all completely editable. 'Commas to Separate Items in a List' in a description of a celebration

Children watch the PPT or Smart board presentation showing pictures of a birthday party. They discuss their best party ever - where it would be, who they would invite, what they would eat and what their favourite presents would be. They do this orally, or on whiteboards, using the picture prompts, thinking carefully about where the commas should go. They then write a paragraph describing the party, using the given sentence openers. There is a check list to help them to remember to use commas correctly. Finally, they could go on to write a descriptive paragraph about another celebration using commas in a similar way, such as Christmas Day or another festival or another person's birthday. Fully editable. For further resources see - https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Jazel
