These resources span my career; from my period of teaching unqualified, through to an AST of English & Director of Teaching & Learning. Although my specialism is English, I have taught GCSE Citzienship, Language and Lit, Media Studies, Maths & History. I have also taught all of those at Key Stage 3, so there is an eclectic mix here. As the main trainer in my previous school, I have uploaded many insets and training session powerpoints too.

Writing Inspired By Another Text Lessons 1-7

This is a series of lessons that I've created for the AQA specification Controlled assessment on Writing. Pupils take apart a series of written texts about Manchester and then try to create their own written piece about the city. The first two lessons and resources are uploaded here in one place so that you can teach them together or separately. The others will be uploaded under the same heading if you want to teach the scheme.

Sport Leisure and Tourism 1900s History Scheme

This is a selection of lessons on the above title. They are quite old now and I found them on an old drive. Looking at them, there are still some good worksheets and some good links so they will make a springboard for further planning... but I think you'd want to adapt them, they&'re not ready to teach and need some updating! I no longer teach history at GCSE, so I thought I would share to see if they can help others.

This is one of several powerpoint lessons that I have uploaded on Media and Non Fiction Texts, ready to teach with it's resources. The lessons are contextualised in the remit of 'making a band'. You will wish to adapt and differentiate for your own class. They can be taught together to reach an assessment outcome but all are suitable as standalone exploratory lessons. This one covers the band writing to get a gig.

Apartheid Controlled Ass. - Justify Why Mandela

This is one of many lessons that I have uploaded on the theme of apartheid for completeing GCSE controlled assessment. All of the lessons can be taught together but each covers a topic so can also be picked up separately. For ease of locating, the title stem is the same: ' Apartheid Controlled Ass'. This is a full powerpoint lesson, ready to teach but you will want to adapt it / update it for your own context and any resources are also uploaded with it. This lesson gets pupils to justify why Mandela was integral to the end of apartheid.

Tell Tale Heart / Scene From Film Scheme Lessons

These are a series of lessons with their resources that cover both reading and writing skills for year 9 pupils. In Year 9, the curriculum for English, mirrors the GCSE language curriculum, as I teach pupils how to prepare for the independence of controlled assessment. These lessons teach pupils the skills they need for GCSE but they are heavily tied into the APP framework for assessment at KS3. This was a scheme that the pupils really engaged with and enjoyed. It gets them to complete a reading analysis of the Tell Tale Heart, then to complete their own piece of gothic writing.

Every year I manage one or both of these and trying to find ideas / delegate tasks is an enormous task. Therefore, I've shared these instruction pages and posters that I use in order to help others to generate ideas and delegate the tasks. Hope they&'re useful.

Writing Inspired By a Text Redraft & Plan

I have already uploaded the Woman In Black scheme for writing that I created last year. These were the lessons that i added to it to vary it for year 9, where they are being taught the skills of redrafting and rewriting in preparation for completing planning - so they are taught using the AQA sheets and taught the skills that they will need ti use independently when they start GCSE.

Giving Nation Lessons - Adapted for Teaching

Those that know this scheme - in which pupils are encouraged to come up with a fundraising idea, carry it out and then raise money for a charity and entering all info onto a blog - will know that the original lessons are seriously dry and do not engage pupils in the topic at all. Therefore, I've created my own - the only thing that belongs to Giving Nation is the logo, scheme and premise. The actual lessons are mine to make them pupil friendly. If you would like the staff PP and book for staff, email me. Can&'t put it on here as its not mine.

Poetry Scheme - 3 Poems - lesson 9 Developing Plot

This is one lesson that I have taken from a whole scheme of lessons. Each poem can be used as an individual lesson, or, if you would like to teach all of the lessons, search for ' Poetry Scheme - 3 Poems - Lesson Miss R' and they should all come up for you to work with. At the end of the unit, there is a reading and writing assessment that involves analysis and creativity too. This lesson structures the pupils in developing a narrative at the end point of one of the poems that they've studied. i.e Hitcher / Educations For Leisure or Stealing.

Roger Hurn Lesson Based On Pied Piper

I am working with an exceptional trainee at the moment & we are promoting the work of author Roger Hurn. He uploads his work to the TES é we have downloaded it for our level 2 é 3 Year 7s. This lesson is lesson 1 after that introduces him and one of his short stories. We will upload the others as they are finished. The end result is that the pupils will write to Roger, who has promised to write back - so a massive thank you to him! The audio for this lesson can be downloaded from Roger, here: http://www.tes.co.uk/ResourceDetail.aspx?storyCode=6206056
