My Learning Reflection Journal

The purpose of this resource is to make students recollect, reflect, value and feel positive about what they do in school. This activity, when completed at the end of the day or as and when the time permits during the day in class allows students to recapitulate what they have learnt and to cement on their understanding. The important feature of this resource is that it can be printed and distributed to students at the beginning of every week as a booklet including the reflection journal sheets for all five days of the week and they can be collected at the end of the day. On Friday, students can take these booklets home and show their learning to their parents, of which both parents and their children can be proud. Pedagogically, this activity aims to inculcate in students the following: 1. the value of learning 2. a sense of pride in what they have learnt, which may contribute to their self-efficacy and self-esteem 3. planning for further action and 4. an evaluation of where they stand in the process of learning at school.

Students generally struggle to connect their sentences or paragraphs in their essays. To assist them with their expression of their ideas in a coherent manner, I use this resource in class. This resource can be used either as a poster (in color) or as a handout (in white). Students have really appreciated this comprehensive list of words from which they can choose while writing their essays. What is more is that it reduces our time and effort in checking their drafts!!!! This resource can be used not only in English classes but also in other subject areas such as, Economics, Legal Studies, Commerce, Business Studies, History, Psychology, Sociology etc.,
Think Aloud Worksheet

Think Aloud Worksheet

(0)
This resource enables teachers assist students with their thinking process while reading a text, especially in English Language Arts. Teachers can use the think-aloud procedure to teach students how to direct and monitor their thinking during reading. As students think aloud, they respond to the text, identify big ideas, ask self-questions, make connections, figure out how to solve problems that may arise and reflect on their use of strategies. This procedure is valuable because students learn to be more active readers, thinking metacognitively and regulating their own cognitive processes (Baker, 2002). Teachers can also use this procedure as an assessment tool. This worksheet includes teacher instructions and pertinent questions for students to which they think and respond.

This can also serve as a sub lesson!!!

Here is a crisp and comprehensive way to teach students how to analyse a poem. A clear instruction for what to look for in a poem with helping questions is given on the first sheet. Students can be taught different aspects of poetry choosing a poem and following through the first sheet. On the second sheet, a template for different aspects similar to what is shown on the first sheet is provided for students to choose a poem of their interest and analyse that poem. This can further be cemented by asking students to choose a poem and analyse it as a group and based on the template they could make an oral presentation of their analysis.
