This full lesson PowerPoint is designed to teach Year 7 students about Bunsen burners and how to light and use them safely.
This is the third in a series of three lessons I have planned which focus solely on teaching students about the basics of safe and accurate practical work. Visit my shop to find the other lessons in this series:
Year 7 Equipment and Safety
Year 7 Measuring Skills
Plus a whole catalogue of other KS3 Science and KS4 Chemistry lessons.
My shop - OnSpecScience - offers a range of free and paid resources covering KS3 Science and KS4 Chemistry.
This document tells you which Year 7 lessons I have available for you to try for free. If you like them, please leave a review and consider buying some of my other lessons. I guarantee they will reduce workload and help to give you your life back :-)
This full lesson PowerPoint will allow you to teach a broad range of abilities about weathering and erosion of rocks. You will also need the free resource “8Hc Weathering cut & stick” from my TES shop.
The lesson is in keeping with the current KS3 UK National Curriculum, is easily accessible for students and simple to follow for teachers.
This is one of several lessons that I offer for free so users can sample my work before deciding whether to pay for further resources. The other free lessons that I offer are detailed in the attached document “Year 8 Science lessons checklist”. If you find these lessons useful, please leave constructive reviews and take a look at the many discounted bundles that I offer across KS3 and KS4.
To go with my KS3 lesson on Burning Fuels.
This worksheet covers the products formed when hydrocarbons combust (completely) and serves as an introduction to writing word equations for combustion.
Best used alongside a suitable demo or video of the setup shown on the worksheet.
Full Lesson PowerPoint (including equipment list and practical instructions) sufficient to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lesson on performing Exothermic and Endothermic reactions, and measuring temperature change in those reactions. The lesson builds in a small iPad research segment which could easily be substituted with textbooks/reference books if iPads are not available.
For full coverage of reaction profiles and bond energies see my follow-up lesson CC15b/SC19b “Endothermic & Exothermic Reactions + Bond Energy”.
This resource is accessible for students, easy for technicians and teachers to follow and is appropriate for Combined and Triple Science classes, Foundation and Higher tiers.
This PowerPoint (with independent learning activity) will allow you to teach a range of abilities about collision theory, including the new material on activation energy, and how temperature, pressure, surface area and concentration affect rates of reaction.
The resource meets all required specification points for the Edexcel 9-1 GCSE Chemistry course. It is accessible for students, easy to follow for teachers and is appropriate for Combined and Triple Science classes, Foundation and Higher tiers.
You will also need the FREE resource “SC18b Collision theory worksheet” from my TES shop.
This full lesson PowerPoint (with practical activity) will allow you to teach a broad range of abilities about acids, alkalis and how to make an indicator from fruit/vegetable matter. The lesson is in keeping with the current KS3 UK National Curriculum, is easily accessible for students and simple to follow for teachers.

PowerPoint sufficient to teach the GCSE 9-1 specification Chemistry lessons on Condensation Polymerisation. Consistent with the Chemistry specification, this lesson focuses mainly on drawing and understanding esterification between single carboxylic acid and alcohol molecules, rather than polymer chains. However, it does extend to encompass formation of polyesters for high-end students.
The resource is accessible for students, easy for teachers to follow and is appropriate for TRIPLE SCIENCE ONLY, HIGHER TIER ONLY. Best taught after completing my lesson SC22a on “Alkenes and Homologous Series”, which provides an intro to the structures of carboxylic acids and alcohols.
**For one of the final summary tasks, you will need to get hold of Pearson Edexcel worksheet SC24c.2 “Monomers and Polymers”. Failing this, you could use slides 10 & 11 to prepare your own card sort which would substitute for the worksheet. Students’ progress can also be assessed simply using the yellow and pink box tasks on slide 9.
