Part 2 of my lessons on Maintenance of Stabiity: this lesson looks at different policies used by Tudor Governments to maintain stability in England and Ireland. Detailed examples linked to rebellions to help prepare students for any essays related to how the government responded to rebellion or prevented further unrest using policy changes in both England and Ireland.

These grids are to help students consolidate their knowledge in sufficient depth for their thematic essays. Some students in my experience rely on the same superficial evidence/ factual knowledge to write these essays and even though they are not to write in depth; it is important that they show off their expertise. One grid is from rebel perspective looking at aims, leadership, support, actions threat and one is from government perspective looking at government support, response, impact an reasons for decreased threat etc. Example modelled on the Cornish rebellion.

Assembly for Black History Month Based on the Little Mermaid debate and why it ignores the most important issues. Also includes two iconic British black heroes who represent this year’s theme “Time for Change…Action not words” Paul Stephenson Baroness Doreen Lawrence I have written up pretty much my whole delivery in the notes section for you- I did it without notes but this is roughly what I said Also includes a competition I ran this year which was really successful for students to research celebrate unsung black and brown heroes. We have had some fantastic responses and made it into a House Competition!

OCR Alevel 2022 Exam Paper detailed mock feedback powerpoint. This took me 4-5 hours to put together so should save you lots of time! Based on common misconceptions/ errors and mistakes. Can be adapted for other questions/ papers. Questions covered were: 10 marker : Causes of 1905 Revolution 20 marker: Causes of October/ November Revolution AND 10 marker: Causes of Feb/ March Revolution 20 marker: Stalin and control- propaganda vs other factors.

Edexcel GCSE History Paper 2: Superpower Relations Cold War This detailed lesson includes a lot of resources specially designed for teachers who are pushed for time- I have redesigned the course and covered it in just 6-7 lessons per key topic. Edexcel GCSE History Medicine Through Time WWI Site Study This lesson examines the problems faced with the Chain of Evacuation Why was the Chain of Evacuation Problematic and how was it improved? All resources included no need for textbooks/ any other resources.

Edexcel GCSE History Superpower Relations and the Cold War Key Topic 2: Escalating Tensions Lesson 1 examines the second Berlin crisis, causes, events and consequences with detail on the summits which followed to try and de-escalate tensions between the USA and USSR Very detailed information on the powerpoint; no textbook or other resources needed- complete lesson which links to the next lesson; the Berlin Wall. Also includes 18 question retrieval quiz (answers on the slide for self/ peer assessment) on the entire topic 1: Origins of the Cold war.

OCR Rebellion and Disorder under the Tudors ALevel History- this can also be used for other boards studying Tudor Rebellions Lesson 2: Lovell and Stafford Rebellion Comprehensive and complete lesson, fully resourced studying the Lovell and Stafford Rebellion Includes detailed notes on Causes, Aims, Nature, Events, Threat posed, Government response and Impact of the Lovell and Stafford Rebellion. Also includes the “pink sheet” we use to record the basics about all rebellions which aren’t depth studies.

OCR Alevel Tudors Rebellion and Disorder/ Tudor Rebellions This is a lesson on Perkin Warbeck’s rebellion I teach this AFTER the Cornish rebellion even though it technically begins before- this is to group the economic rebs and have them bookended by Dynastic threats and also to show the response to the rebellion when Warbeck lands in Cornwall in Sept and ensure students do not muddle that with the Cornish rebellion of 1497 (early summer) Can be used for any Tudor Rebellions/ Tudors ALevel Very detailed and in depth- all themes covered.

KS4 USA Divided Society or KS3 lesson Life for African-Americans Examines the nature of the WASP vs non WASP discrimination in the USA Jim Crow laws and impact considered and the rise and fall of the KKK Includes a video link to the Greenwood Tulsa race massacre in 1921 to show that African-Americans both prospered and suffered. Includes a colour code debate sheet.

OCR Tudor Rebellions ALevel (can be used for other specs) This lesson is a detailed study of the Simnel rebellion 1487 It includes all resources needed- for any references to the textbook- all info is actually typed up onto the slides- the references are only if you wish to set independent study using the Mervyn Tudor Rebellions textbook (SHP Hodder) This is not necessary- the powerpoint can be used as a guided resource or slides/ info can be printed for students to work independently. Many of the slides require the animations to reveal the info beneath. Covers all the aspects needed for the Rebellions against Tudors Breadth study/ Thematic for the Lambert Simnel rebellion 1487 vs Henry VII.

This document is a guide to how to write Section A Interpretations questions which are 30 marks- it has a template for students’ use as well as an exemplar paragraph with evaluation and conclusion for one of the exam board sample papers (Elton and Haigh on Causes of the Pilgrimage of Grace).

OCR Tufdor Rebellions specification for ALevel This lesson (2-3 hours plus hwk) examines the causes, nature, events and impact of the Lady Jane Grey rebellion in 1553 against Mary Tudor. Lots of detailed resources to give you everything you need to teach this rebellion well.

This powerpoint is an example of how you can make a really effective assessment feedback lesson. You can model excellent explanation and layer the development of answers using a powerpoint like this and also have lots of additional activities to keep students busy. I have also included my feedback sheet which I made to go with this assessment: Which of the following was the most important cause of WWI: -Imperialism -The Alliance systems? Free so you can download and adapt as neeeded for your groups.

Edexcel GCSE History This lesson examines the ways in which Lanfranc changed the Saxon Church during the Norman conquest and how this enabled William to maintain control. Includes a “go find” activity which can also be used as a carousel with students working on different aspects of the Church. Could also be turned into an investigative commission where Lanfranc sends investigating Norman Archdeacons to report on wrong doings in the Church then writes a report. All info included, no textbook required. Also includes some exam questions and mark schemes/ example answer for 4 marker.

This lesson is focused on why there was a second succession crisis in 1088, why William had a difficult relationship with his son Robert and Bishop Odo. Fully resourced lesson including starter, two main tasks and a plenary/ end of unit summary retrieval Who am I? To test student understanding of key individuals such as Edwin and Morcar, Waltheof, Lanfranc, Roger de Bretuill and Ralph de Gael. Includes a fully detailed worksheet, powerpoint, storyboard template , mini family tree for William (only 3 relevant sons included and Matilda) and fact file on Bishop Odo of Bayeux/ Kent. Also looks at causes of Odo and Robert’s rebellion against William II and why it failed. Exam Board: Edexcel GCSE= can be used for other boards.

The amazing story of Harriet Tubman. Worksheet to accompany the film “Harriet” 2019 which tells the amazing story of the brave and courageous Harriet Tubman who worked on the Underground Railroad to help lead over 70 enslaved people to freedom from states such as Maryland to the free North. The worksheet has questions designed to help students understand the brutality and insidious nature of slavery as well as why what the Anti-Slavery Society and Tubman achieved was so impressive and important.

Another retrieval activity for the Tudor Rebellions OCR ALevel course. This one randomly jumbles words and facts which are linked to the 5 rebellions against Henry VII. Students can colour code them according to which rebellion they are relevant to then as an extension they can try and add more detail about the facts. Eg which places are sites of battles? Which are attempted invasions etc. Answers also included for teachers new to the course or for self-assessment.
