3 lessons that focus on plot, context and integrating context into analytical paragraphs based on the short story ‘Boys and Girls’ by Alice Munro. The story is not included but easily found online. The lessons were originally taught to a mixed ability Year 8 class and are suitable for online learning. Modelled writing and scaffolds are included.

Two lessons focusing on an analysis of Atticus Finch’s character in chapter 3 of To Kill A Mockingbird. Suitable for a mixed ability Year 8 class, these lessons include extension tasks and opportunities for peer assessment.

A lesson which aims to develop student understanding of what makes imagery effective in creative writing using the short story, ‘All Summer in a Day’ by Ray Bradbury. The lesson is scaffolded with discussion tasks and writing frames. Prior knowledge of the text is required. Suitable for a higher ability Year 7 group or a mixed ability Year 8 group.

A scheme of work that covers the entire novel and includes reading time, a reading log, exploration of key themes, analysis of quotes, debate tasks and recall activities. Originally designed for the Cambridge 0475 Literature IGCSE. Suitable for a mixed ability KS4 group. This is divided into twenty lessons but note that the lessons are one hour, thirty minutes each. This would stretch to around thirty one hour lessons. Students will need their own copies of the text.

A 4-5 lesson unit covering extract analysis of Stave 5 of A Chrismas Carol. Focuses include comparison and contrast, thematic links and language analysis. A Practice exam question and extract with a planning tablemat is included.

A differentiated booklet that enables students to plan a cover letter for a prospective employer. Includes a modelled example, sentence starters and vocabulary and opportunities to self assess. Originally used for a lower ability year 9 group as part of a literacy unit, this would suit KS3 students as part of a letter writing scheme of work. Best printed in booklet format.

A lesson focusing on group analysis of 'Anthem for Doomed Youth' by Wilfred Owen exploring contrast, attitude and effect of onomatopoeia. Originally used with a year 8 mixed ability group, this would also suit a higher ability year 7 class. Prior knowledge of basic poetic devices is required.

An exploratory lesson that focuses on considering authorial purpose for a recruitment speech. Students will need access to cameras/recorders to be able to perform sections of the speech. Resources are included as well as explanatory notes within the powerpoint. Suitable for high ability year 7 or mixed ability year 8 group and would mesh with a scheme on war poetry or supplement the study of War Horse or other WW1 texts.

A revision lesson focused on extract analysis of Stave 4 of A Christmas Carol. Primarily, the focus is on The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come and how Scrooge's character has changed. Includes a tablemat resource for structuring paragraphs and modelled writing. Suitable for revision of the text, students will need their own copies of the text.

Two lessons that offer revision activities for Stave 2 of A Christmas Carol. The first is an overview of some key moments in the Stave, recapping Fezziwig, Belle and Little Fan, while the second lesson is a more specific analysis of the Ghost of Christmas Past with modelled answers and an exam process.

An exploratory lesson on life as a soldier during World War 1 with summarising and pair work activities. Would support contextual background for war poetry or for the novel 'War Horse'. Suitable for a year 8 KS3 class.

The poem is annotated and there is contextual information along with group activities and individual work. Suitable for a higher ability year 10 class or a mixed ability year 11 group. Can be used to supplement an exisiting scheme of work or as a standalone lesson in the vein of an unseen poem.
