This resource provides some keywords and key questions for analysing a product in terms of SMSC issues. This could be used during a product analysis for coursework or could be used a s a group activity to highlight some of the key issues designers and engineers face when designing and manufacturing products.
There are two formats included which can be easily edited to suit different specifications or groups.
A revision clock is a innovative method of getting pupils to split their time up in a lesson or at home when revising and to break larger topics down into manageable chunks. Pupils have a limited time to write down facts about a given topic. In this case the hour is split into the four sections of PESTLE. Pupils would start at Political and would have 10 minutes to fill that section before moving on. The total time can of course be adapted to suit a shorter or longer lesson. This resource can be used to revise PESTLE or can be used to perform a quick yet effective product market analysis. Use this tool to help ensure you have a quick paced lesson.
PESTLE is useful product market analysis tool can be used for a variety of technology based subjects including Design Technology & Engineering. Is is useful at all Key Stages.
There are two file types available and can be easily edited to ensure that it is suitable for your subject/specification.
This is a quick and effective resource for creating a revision guide for low carbon steel stress strain curves and associated key words and phrases. Simply print on to A3 (double sided) and cut along the lines between each physical property. Fold the tabs over so they cover the boxes.
Pupils are give an amount of time (I suggest five minutes per box) to write a definition and key information about each key phrase. There is also room on the back for pupils to draw an example of a stress-strain curve and label it. In an hour pupils will have a completed revision guide.
Pupils can then cover up the definitions and test themselves, before checking to see if they were correct.
This is a quick resource for creating a revision guide for physical properties in engineering lessons. Simply print on to A3 (double sided) and cut along the lines between each physical property. Fold the tabs over so they cover the boxes.
Pupils are give an amount of time (I suggest five minutes per box) to write a definition, how the property is measured, an application where it is needed etc. In an hour pupils will have a completed revision guide.

A revision clock is a innovative method of getting pupils to split their time up in a lesson or at home when revising and to break larger topics down into manageable chunks. Pupils have a limited time to write down facts about a given topic. In this case the hour is split into twelve common physical properties. Pupils would start at area and would have 5 minutes to fill that section before moving on. This resource can be used to revise physical properties. Use this tool to help ensure you have a quick paced lesson.

With literacy and extended written the focus across the wider curriculum, this simple activity card will help pupils to produce a well written paragraph in a typically practical based subject where pupils may not expect to be producing written work.
A PEEL paragraph (Point, Evidence, Explain, Link) is a technique used by English departments to help pupils produce a well written paragraph. A PEEL paragraph a simple technique which could be useful to support lower abilities or younger years. Other techniques such as PEAS & PETER may help support older pupils.
This download includes Adobe Illustrator and PDF files which are ready to print and use or they can be easily edited.

A simple yet effective starter activity which involves pupils matching each material property to the correct definition. Definitions are suitable for a range of specifications and can be easily adapted to include exact properties required for any specification.
A revision clock is a innovative method of getting pupils to split their time up in a lesson or at home when revising and to break larger topics down into manageable chunks. Pupils have a limited time to write down facts about a given topic. In this case the hour is split into the six Rs of sustainability. Pupils would start at Recycle and would have 10 minutes to fill that section before moving on. This resource can be used to revise the six Rs or can be used to perform a quick yet effective product analysis. Use this tool to help ensure you have a quick paced lesson.
The 6Rs is a useful tool that can quickly analyse a products sustainability and help pupils to begin to think how to lessen the environmental impact of their designs and products. This could be easily adapted for use with any DT/Engineering KS4/KS5 course.

Pupils have a limited time to write down facts about a given topic. This revision clock has been adapted to allow pupils thinking time to construct an extended writing paragraph. In this case the time limit will probably be less than an hour, say eight minutes. The eight minutes are split into the four sections: Point, Evidence, Explain, Link. Pupils would two minutes to write notes or construct each part of their paragraph, creating a draft version. This is a quick and effective way of showing pupils that they can write an extended paragraph with ease.

This work booklet allow pupils to evidence practical work for unit two of the WJEC Vocational Award in Engineering. This has been adapted from the exemplar material provided on the WJEC website.
Unit Two requires pupils to produce an engineering product (such as a lamp) from drawings produced by the centre. If you have access to computers the template can be easily edited in Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat or Powerpoint. If you don’t have computers you can always edit and then print in A3.
Centres should adapt this booklet to suit their own assignments.
This is a set of two mock exams and mark schemes that are designed to test pupils knowledge after the teaching of Unit One. The mocks cover criteria from PO1 - PO5. The mocks have been built on past papers and mark allocations from AQA. The majority of the questions are different to the past papers available form AQA. They could be used as end of topic assessments, end of term assessment or as a resource for exam style questions.
They have been designed to look professional and as similar to the real exam as possible to get pupils used to seeing the exam.
The documents were created on Word for Mac so the format may need tweaking if opened on a PC, however the PDF files are also available.
These mocks & mark schemes will save you hours of planning!
