New Zealand Essential Spelling Lists 1-7 (+ commonly misspelt words). A fun board game to help your students learn their spelling words. The variety of boards will give them a sense of choice and will help to keep them motivated to play. The cute graphics are bound to appeal to both you and your students. Included: ♦ 6 different game boards in 3 different styles (click on ‘preview’ above to see them all). All have a penguin theme. ♦ Word lists. ♦ Blank template to make up your own word lists (if necessary) ♦ Reference chart for students (homonym/homophone words that they will need to put in a sentence). How to play: A game for 2 or more players. Roll the dice and move your counter around the board. You will land on a coloured square. Another player will ask you to spell a word from that colour group from the essential spelling list that you are currently learning. You can spell the word out loud, or write it on a piece of paper. If you spell the word correctly, you receive one point. The winner is the player who reaches a predetermined number (eg 20 points), or whoever has the most points after an allocated time. Your students can play this game with anyone! Players do not need to be playing against others on the same word list. Great for daily 5, literacy centres, word study, early finishers, wet day games, etc. This game can easily be adapted to any spelling words. This activity is for words at the Magenta and Red level. A total of 53 activity sheets. Students trace the focus word, have a go at writing it, and then cut the letter tiles and paste them into the empty boxes. There are additional letter tiles for the Red words. Students will need to sort out which letters they need to keep to make the word. The Magenta words only have the letter tiles that are needed. A great activity for working on fine motor skills. Students also get to practice writing their name on every activity sheet. Words are written with the NZ Basic Script font. Lines are 14mm high with a 7mm dashed line. A great way to cover literacy and numeracy at the same time. The graphs progress in difficulty: At the Magenta level students are only working with a few words on a simple 5x4 graph. By the time they get to Orange, the task has become more challenging with the number of words that they need to plot on a 6x6 graph.
