A PRACTICE PAPER TO BE USED AS LESSON 11 IN THE SCHEME OF LEARNING

This is part of scheme of learning for Key Stage 3 about the Cold War which looks at how Russia became communist in the first place, and puts the Cold War into its ideological context. It follows the lessons also included on the atomic bomb and capitalism and communism. It comprises of 2x1hours, and makes use of YouTube clips about the Bolshevik Revolution and communism, and there is also a resource for students to answer questions while they watch. I have found it to be a useful lesson for online teaching.

This resource is a power point focusing on the succession and foreign policy. it contains a number of activities for the 1C Unit of the AQA A level,and can also be used for other A level boards. If students do all activities it should take approximately 5 hours to teach

These lessons focus on President Johnson’s foreign policy with specific focus on his escalation of the war in Vietnam. It allows students to study source materials to reach judgements with regards to causation. These lessons take about 3 hours to teach and contain a variety of activities; video clips and opportunities for research and debate. It was made for the AQA American Dream A Level unit, but can be used for the post 16 study of post war USA for any examination board.

This resource addresses the successes of President Johnson and civil rights. It involves looking at enclosed source materials and personal research to make an assessment on Johnson’s achievements. It contains video clips; sources and opportunities for evaluative group work. It would take about 3 hours to complete this lesson. The lessons were created for the AQA American Dream unit, but are suitable for any post 16 study of post war USA.

This resource focuses on explaining capitalism and communism through role play. Students are each given a character from either 1945 USSR or USA with information about their situation. They have to interview each other and record their results on a grid. They then use the grid to write an extended piece of evaluative writing - structure included to help students who require support. I have found this very useful to help students understand from the perspective of others in a fun way. The resource contains a short Power Point with instructions; colour-coded differentiated characters; and a grid to record findings.

This resource is targeted at supporting A level students master historiography. It contains one mat for each of the following relating to the reign of Henry VII: Consolidation of power and the establishment of a stable monarch (fully completed to model activity) Government and finance Foreign policy Society Economy Religion; humanism and the arts The first mat is completed with the historiography, plus evidence to support each argument as an example. The task is for students to research each historiography and record evidence (the historiographical argument is included on each mat). These completed mats should then be used for revision/essay writing/evaluating interpretations. They will support students’ learning at A level and weremade for AQA Unit 1C, however are useful for any post 16 study of the Tudors.

This debate is an opportunity for A Level student to re-visit the Presidency of Harry Truman. It is the last of a series of 5 power points covering the Presidency of Harry Truman, and gives students the opportunity to evaluate his presidency. The whole section on Truman covers about 20-25 hours of teaching and is available either in blocks of 5 hours or as a bundle.

This is an A Level lesson on the 1952 US Presidential Election. It would take about 3 hours to teach and is suitable for the first lesson on Eisenhower for the American Dream Unit. It is also suitable for A Level Politics as it focuses quite closely on the American electoral system.

This lesson has been created for the American Dream unit of the AQA A level, but is suitable for any course which involves the study of Eisenhower’s presidency. It focuses on the successes/failures of Nixon as Vice President, and his relationship with Eisenhower, and traces the end of MaCCarthyism. It contains a variety of research; card sort and video activities, and takes about 3 hours to teach.

These lessons cover the decade of change in the 1960s with reference to youth culture and feminism during Johnson’s presidency. They involve opportunities to use contemporary source materials to reach judgements and to compare youth culture and feminism. The resources were made for the AQA American Dream A Level but are suitable for any post 16 study.
