Hi there! I'm both an English and Geography teacher in London. I am currently working in an Outstanding school which is my second Outstanding school of my career in London after teaching in both Ireland and the Middle East. My resources are both English & Geography resources where I like to give the student an active role in their learning. It is done by many activities such as Q&A sessions, exercises, group/pair-work and many others.

An observation lesson with my Year 7 students introducing them into Crime in London. The ‘Do Now’ task is to get students to think of the real-life knowledge of crime. The main task is to complete a choropleth map of crime in London where students are given data to complete this by representing this by colouring in the map which is included.

This lesson was for a Year 9 class but can be used for any KS3 class for students to think about their future. The lesson is cross-curricular as it asks students to think of their Option Choices for Year 10 and what job they would like to do in the future. This lesson is after another lesson entitled “Who are You?” and is available too as a bundle. The main task is a small article with a comprehension in relation the the question: What would you like to do when you grow up? This PowerPoint lesson is in relation to mainly chapter 3 ‘The Snatch’ but also refers to previous chapters. The main activity within this PowerPoint is where students use their imagination and put themselves in Sophie’s shoes and use the ‘negative feelings’ sheet to help them describe when The BFG took them. This lesson focuses on the demise of Curley’s Wife in chapter 5. This is primarily a reading lesson of chapter 5 and does have the structure below. The lesson is structured in such a way whereby students start with a ‘Do Now’ and have an opportunity to give their points across through classroom discussion and think-pair-share. There are also main tasks to consolidate the learning and ending with a plenary. This is lesson 21 from a 24 lesson scheme of work that I have created and is available as a bundle. Included is a 40 page SoW that goes through each lesson.

Lesson one shows students the context of Northern Ireland and a how ‘The Troubles’ impacted Longley. It also gives students an introduction to the poem and by completing various tasks. Lesson 2 analyses the poem in more detail in terms of both language and structure. It allows students to form their own opinion of the meaning of the poem through probing questions. Both of these lessons were used for remote learning but can easily be used in the classroom also.

This is a very good resource that I gave to my examination students who are using recording devices or typing their examination answers. The questions within the feedback sheet were given after their mocks but can be also used for in-class preparation. The answers will give you knowledge of what the student hopes to focus on so you can plan what improvements need to be targeted.

This PowerPoint shows students the juxtapositioning of both King Duncan and Lady Macbeth in comparison to how a king and a woman should be viewed in society. Through a series of tasks that get students thinking of each character, only to find Shakespeare portrays them in a different way. This PowerPoint and remote learning instructions introduces Haikus in a simple way. It is for remote learning during the lockdown. The ‘Do Now’ exercise tests students’ prior knowledge on syllables as this is required. It then shows students an example of a Haiku, going through the structure and language. Students are then asked to watch a YouTube video for the process and then asked to create their own Haiku. The plenary is to create their own ‘Lockdown Haiku’ which can be emailed to you and the chosen winners will be on a format like Padlet.

This PowerPoint is structured with a ‘Do Now’ which recalls students prior knowledge from poetic devices and other questions. It then gives background to the poet before getting students to think about the title and context. The students are then asked to write what the main themes of the poem are. There is a hinge question which leads to a debate as all answers are similar but have minor differences to show what a dramatic monologue is.
