Example character profile text based on information up to Chapter 3 from the children’s novel Stig of the Dump by Clive King. This exemplar character description of Stig is perfect to use as a WAGOLL when studying Chapter 3 of the text or beyond (not to be used before this point due to spoilers). The model character profile comes with a feature identification worksheet for children to fill in, plus an answer sheet that can be uploaded for remote learning or shared in class. After identifying the features of the text, pupils can write their own character description of Stig, Barney, Lou or any other book character, using the Character Profile Template (also included). Useful word banks to help children to create and describe a monster, a dragon or even an animal. These word banks contain nouns, their synonyms, and adjectives for the following body parts: • skin coverings: fur/hair, scales, feathers, skin, spines, quills • head: horns, antlers, crest, wattle • limbs: legs, wings, flippers, tentacles, claws, talons, hooves, pincers • mouths: jaws/snout, beak, teeth, tusks, fangs, tongue • other parts: tail, mane, dorsal crest, shell, fin, pouch Each body part comes with a list of appropriate adjectives and a photograph for illustration. This resource is particularly helpful for SEN and EAL pupils, but can be used by the whole class to widen pupils’ vocabulary usage. A second version includes synonyms for nouns, as well as appropriate adjectives, suitable for all pupils. Example texts demonstrating dialogue writing with direct speech based on the beautiful children’s picture book Journey by Aaron Becker. The 3 differentiated example texts contain conversations between the female protagonist and her elder sister when she is bored and looking for someone to play with. Differentiated feature find worksheets with answers are included – perfect for sharing in class or uploading during online lessons for remote learning. All resources are differentiated three ways. The model texts are useful as WAGOLLs to examine before children attempt their own dialogue writing based on the book. All documents are provided in PDF and easily editable Word format.
