Edexcel Music GCSE Essay Hints for AO4
A resource to support students aiming for high marks on question 9 of the Edexcel GCSE Music examination. There are 10 points per set work which students can revise from which aim to either link to the genre, link to characteristic features of the piece/genre or explain WHY the composer chose a certain aspect.
This has been used with a cohort of students for revision and half of the cohort achieved 9 or above /12 on the essay question.

Piggy Lord of the Flies

Paper 1 Question 5 Descriptive Writing Revision
A 19 slide revision lesson for Paper 1 Question 5. Best used over 2/3 lessons.
Using the image of a haunted house as the inspiration, students complete a series of tasks on a worksheet (attached) aimed at developing skills for Paper 1 Question 5 (covering sentence types and openers, advanced punctuation and figurative language) before completing the description. Students then evaluate their work using the suggested strategies.
Also contains a lesson which goes through some high level exemplars of a lighthouse.

Macbeth Full Play Annotated
104 PowerPoint slides containing annotations for the whole play - Macbeth. A great resource to accompany a reading of the play or to help students address gaps in their learning through absence. I originally created this resource to help some students who missed a large proportion of the curriculum due to absence.
Annotations are click activated so the teacher can talk through them one by one.
There are over 300 annotations covering every scene of the play. Obviously, I have prioritised the key moments from the key scenes for the most detailed annotations. The PowerPoint is fully editable so you can add extra annotations so you add, remove or change the amount of annotations to suit the ability of your students.
I have included a revision task sheet that encourages students to go through the PowerPoint and explain what is happening in each scene, explore the language in the key quotations and evaluate the thematic significance of the scene.

This A3 sheet contains a thesis-style introduction and 10 key quotations analysed in detail for the 4 main characters in Lord of the Flies:
Piggy, Simon, Ralph and Jack.
Also contains a blank template version. I give students the blank template first to see how much they can recall before going over the answers.
