Based on the image and previous work on the June 2017 Rosabel paper. This resource is perfect to revise structure, vocabulary and content for question 5. AT the end of the lesson, students should have a detailed plan, opening and ending lines. They should also leave feedback on the exit ticket for future planning. Mark scheme focus is on vocabulary. This is a complete, fully resourced 7 lesson unit of work to ease the transition from Primary Pupil to Secondary English Student. It is built around the novel Stone Cold and focuses on the theme of homelessness. Co-operative learning strategies are embedded in the scheme of work as well as WAGOLLs and other models/examples of strong analysis. This unit comes with a lesson-by-lesson PowerPoint and differentiated work pack for either lower ability or middle to high ability students. As I taught Edexcel at the time of making the scheme, it uses the PETER acronym for strong, focused analysis. Assessment is also included!

It is worth knowing that the for technique, spotting a correct language feature/technique/ word class will gain you some credit but not maximum marks. I use this as an aide memoir for LA students.

This resource asks students to consider the impact of the writer's language choices. It guides them through a step by step analysis structure, asking them to identify, explore, apply and evaluate the success of the writer's choices. I used this as part of a transition scheme of work for new starters in Year 7. It could easily be adapted for higher or lower ability.

This lesson is ideal for practising the writing skills from the English Language paper whilst revising and embedding the knowledge needed for the English Literature paper! Lesson is developed from the Pearson Target Grade 5 - Get Back on Track intervention book (I'd recommend it!) Moves through questions, planning, story structure, self assessment and more. Includes embedded timers and Lemov style 'but, because, so' questioning to develop responses around the text from your students. I'm using it with a mid-low ability class with 5 grade targets but it can be easily adapted for higher level students.

This resource asks students to explore Stanislavski's concepts of units and motivation. This was initially a 30 minute interview lesson but it could easily be adapted. It includes teaching and learning concepts like coaching triangles to develop a performers response immediately and encourage students to give clearer and more specific feedback. The initial task is based on one of Kagan's Co-operative Learning strategies - Jigsaw. The Jigsaw stations are slides 13-17. All slides with tasks have count down timers embedded. I'm just moving more into the world of Drama this year after 8 years English teaching; all feedback is welcomed!

It is based on Tennyson's 'The Lady Of Shallot' and uses a collaborative approach to build confidence in the learners before the assessment. This is a reading analysis lesson building upon the Heroes and Villains powerpoint lesson (also available in my shop). It uses the PEE structure and a script/ transcript of the famous 'I am your father' scene from Empire Strikes Back. This lesson gets students to engage with play scripts, develop speaking and listening skills, work co-operatively and leads up to an assessment. NB The script is not my work (if only - I'd be rich!) but it is available to download online.

This resource is aimed at KS3 students who need to develop their inference and writing skills. Students explore the concepts of heroes and villains, empathy and back story. The clips I used (in case the links have been removed) were of the death of Uncle Ben in Spiderman and the transformation of Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader. A novel way of looking at structure to elicit more detailed and thoughtful responses from students analysing a text. I'm convinced that I &'lifted&'; the Dickens extract from another contributor; it has proved very useful to me over the years. Thank you! This is a headline and subheading from a Charlie Brooker piece. It gets students to assess the writer's choice of language and really peel back the layers of meaning within the text. It is best utilised alongside Kagan style co-operative learning strategies. I used it to develop my students' responses to language questions on reading assessments. This is a lesson adapted from an amazing teacher I used to work with -> The first lesson (Bieber crib to supporting differentiation sheet) is almost entirely hers and I would like to say: 'Thanks!&' The following two lessons are planned for a mixed ability set with varying needs. There is a hopscotch task differentiation grid to encourage progress and models of expected answers to discuss. I hope my evolution of this resource can help somebody else. This resource has been developed using the Heinemann 'Make the Grade&' text book. The mix and match activity is on slide one to print and slice, the article for the main writing question is &';The show must go on'. This was created for a LAT group of Y10 students who responded really well to the solo taxonomy used to structure their success criteria. They grasped the significance of quantity and quality fairly quickly. The solo sheet was stuck into books and they recorded each step independently. We now use the symbols as the idea behind them is firmly embedded. Please comment on this resource if you find it useful! (It was graded as outstanding on the 9 point framework)

Using the 'Saved&' extract and June 2012 exam paper, I&';ve put together a powerpoint breaking down the question and structuring the analysis of the text. I'm pretty sure the format was originally scouted from another TES contributor but I have adapted it for the latest GCSE extracts and markscheme. This is a powerpoint activity for lower ability students who are learning to analyse colour in media contexts. As my class are challenging and have weak literacy skills I printed the three analysis slides out as a worksheet for the pupils to write on. My development from this lesson was to ask the pupils to bring in an advert that used colour in a way that interested them. This initial powerpoint and structured worksheet helped them to develop their own analysis of media texts. I hope it is useful to somebody else!
