A collection of ideas to develop reading and writing skills based on the first six chapters of the book. Could be used to help plan a unit of work. Five worksheets are also included. This 5 page projects for Upper KS2 guides the children through the process of generating an idea for a business and then discovering whether it is profitable. It has a strong maths focus, but ends with the children having to create a presentation for potential investors. This could be completed in class over several lessons or be given as homework.

This is ideal for years 5 and 6, but it could be adapted to be used with Year 4. This includes planning for six weeks - 30 days in total. The format I have used is as follows… Monday - Discussion / Short Writing Tuesday - Reading Comprehension Wednesday - Grammar and Punctuation Thursday and Friday - Longer Writing Writing genres included… -diary -letter -story from a different point of view -speech -newspaper report -play script You can easily copy and paste the ideas from this planning into your own format if you want to. These differentiated comprehensions cover ALL the Year 3 topics and each one comes complete with a separate answer sheet. This is a four-page project for Upper KS2 about a man who disappeared in 1876 and then reappeared in 1950. It is based on a real event - although the children don’t find this out until the end! It includes… -diary writing -a play script -a report At the end the children have to write their own theory as to what exactly happened. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS SUITABLE FOR OLDER CHILDREN BECAUSE IT MENTIONS SOMEONE BEING HIT BY A CAR AND BEING KILLED (SENSITIVELY) AND REFERS TO THE BODY BEING SEARCHED.

Everything you need to make your own adventure book - easily! These books are great fun to make and read. The children really like the fact that they get to make choices along the way and choose the path their adventure takes. This includes… 1. This includes five separate 3-page activities. Each one guides the children through the process of creating a crossword using words from the Year 5 and 6 list. The children write a clue for each word or they could write a sentence with the word missing - perhaps including some of the letters. A fun activity which will help the children to improve their spelling at the same time.

It might be over 50 years old, but this film truly has something for everyone. It is also very useful to look at what people are really thinking which can feed into their writing. This resource includes 32 activities / points for discussion (including 6 writing activities) for the first 1 hour and 45 minutes of the film. I would not suggest that you use all of them, but choose the ones you like the most. I would also suggest that after the Intermission the children should just watch the last hour or so of the film uninterrupted. I have not included any activities for the last part of the film. The times of relevant scenes are included throughout this resource so you can locate them easily. You could easily use this as a basis of your literacy for a week - perhaps more. The children start anywhere on the grid and include that word in their first sentence. They then move horizontally or vertically to choose the word for their second sentence. They need to plan their route carefully and try to use as many of the words as possible. All the words have been carefully chosen from the year 3 and 4 word list.
