TSL Education is delighted to announce the appointment of Gerard Kelly as the new Editor of the Times Educational Supplement (TES) and the promotion of Ann Mroz to the role of Editor on the Times Higher Education (THE).

Mr Kelly has been in education journalism for 17 years, most recently as editor of the newly re-launched and critically acclaimed Times Higher Education. He replaces Karen Dempsey, who has resigned for personal reasons.

He said: "It is daunting yet immensely exciting to take on the task of editing a paper of such pedigree and such authority, especially at a time when the debate about education in this country is so vigorous. TES has dominated the education agenda for almost 100 years. It covered the great soul-searching over the future of education in the 40s, instigated much of the discussion over comprehensives in the 50s and did so again later in the century over issues such as the national curriculum, Ofsted and compulsory testing. I intend to carry on that tradition."

Ann Mroz, the current Deputy Editor of the Higher will step up to the role of Editor of THE. Ann has been with the Higher for over 14 years and has made a huge contribution to the success of the title over that time. Her influence, drive and ambition for the title has played a significant role in the success of the recent re-launch. She said: "I am delighted to be taking over as editor after such a successful re-launch. It’s an exciting time as THE builds on that success and takes the brand forward. It will be a pleasure to lead such a talented team."

Louise Rogers, Managing Director of TSL, said: "I have enjoyed working with both Gerard and Ann on the highly successful re-launch of THE. Gerard is creative, full of ideas and has been an expert on the education system for more than a decade. I am confident that he will be an excellent editor of TES and will put his undoubted talents to good use as TES moves forward rapidly to serve the country’s 500,000 teachers.

"While the development of TES is very important to the business we will not forget the THE. Ann is already a highly respected figure in the Higher Education world and I am quite sure she will continue to push forward the THE as it continues to build on the successful re-launch and its special place in the world of academe."
